On-Campus Dining

If you live on campus, you are required to have a meal plan that lets you eat at any dining facility on campus. To purchase your food, you need to tap or swipe your ID card and pay. Depending on the location, you will either pay one flat rate and eat everything you'd like or just pay for the items you order.
There is a wide range of food available, such as sandwiches, pizza, Asian stir fry, Italian pasta, Mexican food, etc. Check out the on-campus dining list to know what is served before your arrival!

Mail & Package Service

If you live on campus, you can use the Mail & Package Center up to 2 weeks before Fall classes begin. Please make sure that you correctly spell out your name (as it appears on your Miami Student ID, or your preferred name if you have registered your preferred name in your Miami Account), room number, and residence hall; otherwise, your mail and packages may be returned. After you arrive on campus, you need to go to the Mail & Package Center located in Shriver Center to get your mail/packages.
If you live off campus and want to mail your packages in advance, you need to arrange it with your housing manager by yourself.

Miami ID Card and Technology

You will use your Miami ID Card for many things on campus. You will obtain your ID Card when you arrive, and submitting your photo online in advance will expedite the process. You need to go to this Miami ID Webpage to upload your photo.
If you are thinking of purchasing a laptop or a cellphone before/upon arrival, the Miami University Bookstore provides the Miami Laptop Program and MiTech Cellular Plan.
We encourage you to start checking your Miami email account before arrival. If you have technical issues with your computer, email, Miami's wireless internet network or Banner/unique ID and password you can email ithelp@miamioh.edu.

aetna website: Welcome o the Miami University student health insurance

Health Insurance

All international students are required to enroll in the Miami University Aetna Student Health Plan. Exceptions to this requirement may be made for students who provide proof of one of the following:
  • full sponsorship by a government agency, which includes health insurance
  • comparable health insurance from a United States employer
Submit the International Student Insurance Requirement Appeal Form (located under "Other Student Services") no later than August 1, 2019 to request an exception based on one of the above categories. Note that your request will be denied if your insurance policy is not comparable to the Miami University Aetna Student Health Plan. Also note that international students will not have the option to use the Aetna waiver portal online to be exempt from the Student Health Plan.

Immunization Form

Please review Miami University's immunization requirements prior to arrival. All new students are required to submit an Immunization Form before classes begin. You may complete the form and bring it with you, or you may bring other documentation of your vaccinations (for example, your "yellow book") with you in order to complete the form during orientation. You will be scheduled for a time to visit Student Health Services during orientation. If you require any additional vaccinations, you will be able to obtain them through Student Health Services on campus.
Important Notes:
  • If you have had chickenpox already, you have two options: get a titer to prove that you have immunity, or get the varicella vaccination.
  • In some countries, the Tdap vaccination is only given to children. Because whooping cough is an emergent issue, we require that all college students have the Tdap vaccination. If you cannot receive it in your home country, you'll have to wait and get it here at Miami.
  • It is better to get multiple doses for one vaccination in the same location. If you have not started getting the Hepatitis B vaccine, we suggest you wait and get the Hepatitis B vaccine here at Miami since you have to wait 6 months for Dose 3 after getting Dose 1.
  • Upon your arrival, you are required to take a tuberculosis (TB) test. This must be done inside the United States. We will schedule a time for you to complete this requirement during your orientation.
If you have any questions about the immunization form, the tuberculosis test, or Miami's student health insurance plan, please email shsmiami@trihealth.com.

Undergraduate Student iPOL Profiles

When you arrive at Miami University for orientation, you will have a designated International Peer Orientation Leader (iPOL) to help you through orientation. Here are the profiles of some of our iPOLs:
"Hi, my name is Ivy Richter and I am a Sophomore Journalism and Fashion-Business Co-Major. I am from Rhode Island but lived in Hong Kong for 10 years. I am a member of Miami’s Varsity Swim Team, where I get to compete for the school I love while doing the sport I love. Miami has brought me some of my best friends and many memorable moments in and around campus! My advice for freshmen year is to be outgoing, confident and easygoing."
"Hi, new Miamians! My name is Bich Ha Nguyen from Hanoi, Vietnam. I'm a Sophomore majoring in Marketing. I love discovering new cultures and traveling. My life is more meaningful when I invest time and effort in myself and in others. I'm a member of BSAC where I organize events for Business students. I also have two jobs on campus and make lots of connections through those. I bet you can do better than that. A new environment might be uncomfortable at first, but there will always be a place for you. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU WILL FIND THIS PLACE."

"你好  Hi there! I am Xiaoyi Huang, feel free to call me Chris! I am a senior, Early Childhood Education major and I come from Shenzhen, China. I am service-oriented and love to help others. I dreamed to be a teacher since I was little. Deep in my heart, I want to do as much as I can for students in China. Therefore, I chose this major and I love it so much. In this major, I'm not only learning how to be a good teacher but also how to be a better human being. Welcome to Miami! I'm sure you will have a great time!"

"Hi there, my name is Mark Cao from Jinan, China. I am a sophomore majoring in computer science. I love traveling and taekwondo. I have been to 11 countries and have made lots of friends all over the world. I received my black belt one year ago after I joined the taekwondo club at Miami. Traveling allows me to see this world better, taekwondo helps me know myself deeper. They both push me to face challenges. As an international student, you’ll have lots of challenges at Miami. I know that the new environment will make you uncomfortable for a while, but don’t be afraid of it. Stay hungry, stay foolish. That’s it. After all, like Friedrich Nietzsche said, "whatever does not kill us, makes us stronger!"
Profile Picture of iPOL Hannah Le
"Hello everyone! My name is Hannah Le. I'm a sophomore, majoring in Marketing in the Farmer School of Business. I'm from Vietnam. One of my biggest passions in life is fashion. During my first year at Miami, I was a part of Miami University Fashion and Design's PR/Marketing committee. Through this experience, I discovered how much I love the fashion industry, especially fashion marketing. One advice I have for you guys is to never afraid to seek help when you need it. Don't be shy as people here at Miami are friendly and everyone is eager to help each other out. Stay curious, and stay open-minded. I believe you guys will have a fantastic time here!"
Next issue, we will be covering the following topics: important reminders, online ISSS check-in, university expectations, academic expectations, student organizations-the Hub & Greek life, iPOL profiles. Stay tuned!
