IT News for All of Notre Dame

Starting in June, The OIT will begin removing SMS and Voice as an authentication option. By the end of July, using SMS or voice to log into Notre Dame accounts will not be an option for anyone.

Who Needs This?

Faculty and staff managing devices or hard drives that may contain regulated, restricted, or sensitive university data and need secure sanitization before disposal, transfer, or reuse.

What You Need to Know

The Service Desk now offers NIST 800-88 compliant sanitization for hard drives with regulated or restricted data.

The University is continuing preparations for the retirement of Box, with key transition milestones approaching over the next year. Faculty and staff are encouraged to delete unneeded files from Box when appropriate. Files that must be retained will need to be manually migrated or transferred using available guidance, with additional migration tools and information from OIT coming soon.

Please note that no new Box accounts will be created after August 3, 2026 and accounts will become read-only on January 11, 2027. 

Beginning in Q2 2026, Google will implement stricter security classifications for Google Groups to better protect university data. These updates will change how "Internal" and "External" groups function, particularly regarding who can access shared resources like emails, Drive files, and Chat spaces. Learn more here.

Faculty, staff and TAs are invited to prepare for a new semester with this popular mini-conference. Sessions will include presentations and workshops on AI, Adobe, new Canvas tools, and so much more. Enjoy a collegial space to learn new skills or prepare your courses (or the courses you support!).  There will be breakfast treats, coffee, and lunch, so please RSVP by Wednesday May 27. 

All equipment and devices incompatible with eduroam and currently connected to ND-guest must register and migrate to the new, encrypted ND-device network before July 5  to maintain connectivity.
