HOUSE GOP RELEASES BILL TO FUND GOVERNMENT THROUGH MIDTERM ELECTIONS
House GOP leaders released a bill text Friday afternoon that would fund most of the government from October 1st through December 4th, extending funding beyond the start of FY27 and past the 2026 midterm elections. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has indicated the measure will receive a floor vote next week. The proposal is a largely “clean” funding bill that does not include additional policy provisions, including the SAVE Act election legislation, though POLITICO reports that debates over immigration enforcement funding are expected to remain a major point of contention as Congress works to avert a government shutdown before the September 30th funding deadline.
