Note from the Dean
It was thrilling to welcome over 400 new students across all of our programs! Last Thursday, we held our first Closing Bell in the courtyard. After more than a year on hold, it was great to see our community come together to celebrate friends new and old.

We are executing on our detailed plan to ensure another great year at Owen while mitigating the potential impacts of COVID and our renovation project. We’ve been able to maintain several classrooms at Management Hall and keep the library and study rooms fully operational. We’ve also temporarily extended our footprint to nearby buildings, where additional classrooms and administrative offices help us fully deliver on our promise of world-class education on a personal scale. I invite you to take our video tour to get a visual perspective of #owenlife around campus this year.

Best,
Eric

A Challenging Month in the World
It’s been a difficult month around the world, with profound events impacting our Owen community in Nashville and beyond.

We all feel the pain of the events unfolding in Afghanistan, with reactions ranging from anger and frustration to sadness and confusion. During these challenging times, I encourage all of you to check in with our alumni and friends who may have connections there, in either civilian or military capacities. The Owen veteran community is large, and several of our recent students have served in Afghanistan. Regardless of how you feel about the political situation, we want to support our veterans and thank them for serving us. We also want to be mindful of the millions of lives that are affected by the week’s events and show support where it is needed.

Similarly, I encourage you to reach out to alumni and friends with connections to Haiti, which experienced a devastating earthquake earlier this month and continues to suffer from political instability.

Reaching out to those impacted is a great way to show you care.
Best,
Eric

Executive MBA Returns to New Harmony
For students within the Executive MBA (EMBA) program, attending the week-long, intensive residency in New Harmony, Indiana, has been a long-standing tradition since 1988. Unfortunately, the global pandemic interrupted this annual event where incoming students reacclimate to student life and meet their fellow classmates and faculty members.
The Executive MBA program persisted through distance learning during the last academic year. However, as the world begins to slowly open back up, the Executive MBA program was thrilled to welcome our first- and second-year classes to the in-person residency in New Harmony earlier this month.

Owen Volunteer Community

Are you looking to get more involved, reconnect and engage with your class, and make a lasting impact? We have many exciting volunteer opportunities in the Owen Volunteer Community!

Class Agents are tasked with increasing alumni participation and engagement to generate support for the Owen Annual Fund. If you are someone who loves to give back and wants to share your “why” for supporting Owen, this is the role for you.

Class Secretaries are a key part of an initiative to keep classes engaged, up to date on the happenings at the school and in each other’s lives, and collect class notes for Vanderbilt Business Magazine. If you love to stay in the know, attend alumni engagement events, and keep up with classmates, the Class Secretary role would be a perfect fit.

The time commitment for both roles is minimal, but both have a massive impact on your class and for Owen. If you are interested in learning more about the Owen Volunteer Community, please email owen.alum@vanderbilt.edu. You can also visit our Owen Volunteer Community website here.
