Ribbon Cutting Set for The Park at Hays Farm
The excitement is building for the opening of The Park at Hays Farm. A ribbon cutting has been scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m., at 801 Haysland Road. The nine-acre City park will be a gathering place in south Huntsville and features a canopy, wide sidewalks, restrooms and a lagoon with a waterfall. In collaboration with Arts Huntsville and Blue Cross Blue Shield, the park will host a state-of-the-art fitness court featuring the work of a local Huntsville artist. The fitness court will support the use of the park as a recreational hub.

D3 Town Hall Focuses on Roads
Council Member Robinson hosted the quarterly District 3 town hall on Oct. 30 with presentations by City Administrator John Hamilton and Traffic Engineering Director Nicholas Nene. Among other topics, discussion centered on a City traffic study on Bailey Cove Road as well as the City’s increased funding for road resurfacing. Special thanks to Torch Technologies for providing the meeting venue while construction continues on the Sandra Moon Community Complex.

Tennessee River Greenway Update
The City Council recently approved a contract to build the third phase of the Tennessee River Greenway, completing the 15-mile greenway link in south Huntsville. The City awarded the contract to Grayson Carter & Son Contracting Inc. The 1.5-mile trail will complete the loop between the Tennessee River Greenway and Aldridge Creek Greenway via the Weatherly Road multi-use path.

Road Resurfacing in District 3
The City Council recently approved funding for Phase 4 of the City’s road improvement plan for the 2025 fiscal year. The improvements include resurfacing and concrete work for neighborhood roads. Several streets in D3 are part of the projects. Some of those include:
  • Mythewood Drive/Circle from Memorial Parkway to Rothmore Drive
  • Ojay Drive from Box Canyon Road to Box Canyon Road
  • Fielding Drive from Magna Carta Place to end of road

ELM Foundation Tours City Hall
Council Member Robinson recently escorted members of The ELM Foundation's Leadership Social Services program on a tour of City Hall. The visit focused on the public art displayed in City Hall, which highlights significant aspects of Huntsville's history. Leadership Social Services is a 10-month leadership development program that occurs annually. Class members come from several social service agencies and professional backgrounds, including agency staff, board members, volunteers and community members.

Speaking to Civic Engagement Academy
Council Member Robinson spoke to the participants of the fall 2025 cohort of the City’s Civic Engagement Academy (CEA), an initiative that introduces residents to the operations of local government through a series of engaging and interactive sessions. The free programs meets weekly and registration will begin soon for the Spring 2026 cohort.

CM Robinson Elected Council President
At the Council’s annual organization meeting on Oct. 9, Council Member Robinson was elected president. As president, Council Member Robinson will preside over meetings and handle Council administrative duties.

Meet South Precinct Capt. Ricky Stephens
Make plans to attend a community meet and greet to welcome Huntsville Police Capt. Ricky Stephens to the South Precinct, where he will oversee operations. The event will be Monday, Nov. 10, at 6 p.m. at the South Precinct, 7900 Bailey Cove Rd.
Huntsville Police Seeks Public Feedback
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is asking residents to provide feedback as part of its reaccreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Residents can share their comments through CALEA’s online public comment portal, which is designed to gather input on HPD’s delivery of public safety services, community engagement, professionalism and overall performance. Comments may include commendations as well as concerns and will be reviewed directly by CALEA as part of its evaluation.

Behind the Scenes: HFR Station 7
Huntsville Fire & Rescue’s Station 7 is located in District 3 at 2930 Green Cove Road and is the southern-most station in the city. Driver/Engineer Dennis Powell said the camaraderie of the station is what makes it special. The best part of the job, though, is when the Station 7 firefighters get to show off their truck to children.
