From the Office of the Dean |
Monthly Digest - January 2023 |

Dear Students, Colleagues and Friends,
I hope that the spring 2023 semester has gotten off to a good start and that you had an opportunity to rest and recharge during the holiday break.
For those who hadn’t heard, I have been appointed the Interim Dean of the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media, which is the joining of both the College of Education and Human Services and the College of Communication and the Arts. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this joining, and more importantly have the opportunity to meet new students, work with talented faculty and the staff of Communication and the Arts.
Spring is an amazing time to be on campus, and to be a part of the transformation from winter to spring and capped off with all of the graduation activities in May is truly special. I wish you all the best this semester and if you ever want to meet, please feel free to stop by my office located on the 4th floor of Jubilee Hall.
Be Safe, Be Happy and Be Healthy!
All the Best!

Dr. Joseph Martinelli Interim Dean

Justin Oosterwyk, ’23, a senior majoring in Journalism (with a minor in Sports Media), interned at ESPN New York radio with their marketing company Good Karma Brand. Oosterwyk described the overall experience as a “dream come true.” Oosterwyk continued: “I was able to learn so much by working through the company, especially how to set up the big events. I was also able to explore new ideas about social branding and ways to promote events which was something new for me to explore. I have been able to apply this to current classes through my writing for classes, or when I write for the schools radio station.”
In addition to this internship, Oosterwyk is a dedicated student athlete on Seton Hall’s men’s swim team since his freshman year. Reflecting on his time, Oosterwyk notes that “As a student athlete here at Seton Hall I have been able to achieve so many of my athletic goals during my four years. Getting a chance to compete with the best of the Big East Conference is always exciting and I cannot wait to compete with my teammates this coming Big East Championships in February. The biggest thing that brought me to this team was the comradery within the team and drive to win a championship each year.”
