On Tuesday, Feb. 4 in Burns Lounge, join in Stand Up and Be Counted: A Conversation on the Journey to Identity, Self-Respect, and Inclusiveness in Legal Profession from 5-7 p.m. The session will draw on "Stand Up and Be Counted," the recently published memoir of Albert C. Lum, a Chinese American attorney who began practicing in Los Angeles in the 1960s and a co-founder of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association (SCCLA). We will hear about Lum's trailblazing life and legal career, learn about the history of Chinese Americans in Southern California, and explore how our personal values inform our professional identity. Professor Nadine Tan, immediate past president of SCCLA, will be among the speakers.

LARC Continues Support of Wildfire Victims
The Loyola Anti-Racism Center (LARC) is seeking volunteers to help families complete critical FEMA, insurance, loan, and other forms to help them recover from the Eaton Fire. They will be at the Altadena Disaster Recovery Center from 12:30-6 p.m. this week, Monday, Feb. 3 through Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, as well as New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church. Prof. Kim to Join Dean's Den Conversation on Executive Orders Related to Immigration
The Dean's Den series on President Trump's early actions continues with Professor Kathleen Kim. Hosted by Fritz B. Burns Dean Brietta R. Clark, the conversation will take a deeper dive into executive orders touching on immigration enforcement, the relationship between federal and state agencies, sanctuary laws, and birthright citizenship. We will consider their potential impact in light of the constitutional and statutory foundations that determine the scope and limits of federal agency power in these areas. The conversation will be held on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, 12-1 p.m. PT in Robinson Courtroom in the Dordick Family Trial Advocacy Center on the LMU Loyola Law School campus with a virtual option. CSLG Event Eyes the Russo-Ukrainian War: 3 Years Later
Eight years after the 2014 Russian illegal invasion, occupation, and eventual annexation of the Ukrainian province of Crimea, Russia launched a larger full-scale invasion of its sovereign neighbor Ukraine. On Monday, Feb. 24 from 12-1:15 p.m., the Loyola Center for the Study of Law and Genocide will present a program examining the international and humanitarian law violations that may have been wrought by this, the largest European war since the Allied defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. The program will include presentations by internationally recognized human rights experts as well as first-hand accounts by attorney/survivors of the war. Scholarships Offered for 28th Annual WCTEO
The UCLA School of Law Lowell Milken Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofits and Loyola Law School are pleased to announce the 28th Western Conference on Tax-Exempt Organizations on Feb. 27-28, 2025, at The California Endowment's Center for Healthy Communities in downtown Los Angeles. Last year's two-day conference was sold out, with nearly 150 lawyers, accountants, and in-house professionals representing a broad range of nonprofit organizations. Government officials will give federal and state updates, and prominent nonprofit practitioners, academics, and other experts from the sector will speak on current topics in nonprofit tax, state law, accounting and other compliance matters. Emergency Response Funds Created to Aid Community Members Impacted by Wildfires
In the wake of the devastating wildfires affecting Los Angeles, members of our LMU family are facing unexpected hardships. Some have lost their homes and belongings and, with them, their sense of safety and stability. As a community rooted in the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis and the Marymount tradition of being a compassionate dear neighbor, we support our colleagues during this challenging time. The fund will provide immediate financial relief through $1,000 grants to those experiencing loss and displacement, ensuring they receive the support they need to recover. Meanwhile, the LLS Emergency Fund supports LMU Loyola Law School students facing unprecedented financial strain including food insecurity, work disruptions, housing instability, and other unanticipated expenses.
