Let’s get real
The state's first Center for Real Estate Studies has been established in The University of Tulsa’s Collins College of Business, with more than 100 students already involved. For students interested in real estate investment, market analysis, brokerage, acquisitions, and sustainable development, the center will offer opportunities to learn in and out of the classroom. The center will also serve as a resource for the real estate industry in Oklahoma, in partnership with government agencies, nonprofits, and private firms to provide independent third-party research and analysis on issues that impact the community.

Saving energy
When gas pipelines are unsecured, attacks can ensue, endangering consumers and costing companies millions of dollars. Mauricio Papa, TU’s Brock Professor of Computer Science, has been investigating this important issue and was recently awarded $3.75 million from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to lead an interdisciplinary team that will conduct a gas pipeline security pilot study. “We are building a transformational facility that, once completed, can be used to conduct cyber security and operational research to help protect natural gas gathering and processing facilities from attacks,” Papa said.

Sovereignty supernova
During an arts symposium in 2021 to commemorate the centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre, local officials began thinking about ways to build on the success of the multi-day event. In a way, this spring’s Sovereign Futures gathering will be a continuation of that effort. During a four-day gathering that starts Thursday, artist-led projects in multiple locations will explore the theme of sovereignty through the lens of food, land, speculative futures, and histories of the place that is now called Oklahoma.
