As the legal hiring landscape continues to evolve, the work of the Office of Career & Professional Development has centered on meeting students earlier, more intentionally, and with a broader set of tools for professional identity formation.
A central focus of our work remains helping students develop a strong professional identity. To this end, we expanded our career exploration programming in ways that bring alumni and students into closer connection earlier in the law school experience. Throughout the academic year, we welcomed alumni back to campus for a series of practice-area and career pathway panels designed to give students a clearer picture of the range of legal careers available to them. Our programs like “July Jumpstart,” “Beyond the Offer,” “The Path to Litigation,” “Law Firm vs. In House Perspectives,” and more help students develop their professional identity early on in their law school career. We are grateful to the many alumni who continue to invest their time and perspective in our students.
Our pro bono clinic model also continues to play a central role in professional identity formation and skills development. This past year, Belmont Law students engaged with real clients and real legal issues, working on matters involving housing, expungement, family law, business transactions, and estate planning. The class of 2026 donated over 8,000 hours of pro bono service.
With summer underway, our students are once again representing Belmont Law in a wide variety of legal environments across the country. This summer’s class is working in large law firms, small and mid-sized practices, judicial clerkships, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and in-house legal departments in a variety of legal markets.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to expanding early career engagement opportunities, deepening alumni connections, and continuing to prepare students for a profession that is ever evolving.
