FWSF Board Increases Scholarship Giving

The FWSF Scholarship committee has some exciting news.

In 2017, the FWSF had a record-breaking year, raising significantly more funds for scholarships, primarily from the efforts of Robin Washington, our 2017 Financial Woman of the Year honoree.

After considering several options for using the additional funds that were raised, the FWSF board has decided to increase the scholarships by $5,000, resulting in $10,000 for undergraduates and $15,000 for graduates. The larger scholarships will be paid for by the excess 2017 funds, which should last between two to three years. We’re proud of our scholarship efforts and the deserving scholarship winners. FWSF’s Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

FWSF has made a commitment to diversity and inclusion (D&I), but how diverse an organization are we today? Hopefully, by the time you read this newsletter, you’ll already have participated in our short membership survey, designed to help us identify who we are now and how we might make our organization more welcoming to everyone.

Last year, the board adopted a D&I initiative; we co-hosted “Fostering Innovation through Diversity,” an insightful and dynamic panel discussion that drew a standing-room crowd of over 100 people; we celebrated phenomenal Robin Washington, our first African-American Financial Woman of the Year; we co-sponsored a gender diversity event in Silicon Valley; and we significantly increased diversity on the board. FWSF’s International Women’s Day Program a Sell-out Success

True to the IWD tagline, #PressforProgress, over 100 women gathered the afternoon of March 8 at Golden Gate University to explore the challenges that women face in their careers, especially in finance…and discuss ways to overcome the inevitable obstacles we face. The afternoon was kicked off with a fireside chat with Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, chair and president, Charles Schwab Foundation and Debbie Messemer, Carrie’s long-time professional friend and managing partner, KPMG Bay Area Market.
