Seeking volunteers, celebrating students, and connecting the community!
Carleton College
Multicultural Alumni Network (MCAN)
Greetings MCAN community,

This past April, the Multicultural Alumni Network Board of Directors met on campus to get the latest updates on campus happenings, brainstorm new ways to connect, and share in community together.

We are looking forward to another new year of MCAN events and opportunities that we'd love you be part of this upcoming year! Read below to find out how you can help out by sharing your quantitative experience in a short, but meaningful connection with incoming students, attending the Reunion 2017 MCAN reception, connecting with fellow alumni and students of color through the Alumni Profiles feature on the Carleton website, and learning more about campus programs.

-Cheers, Luke Lightning, '93, MCAN Chair
Seeking MCAN Alumni Volunteers For Short Opportunity!
This summer, Carleton will be offering a hybrid summer/fall bridge program to members of the Class of 2021 to strengthen their quantitative skills, explore how these skills are relevant to a variety of disciplines, and help students begin to feel connected to Carleton.  To learn more about this Carleton Undergraduate Bridge Experience (CUBE), check out the program website: https://apps.carleton.edu/cube/
I am interested in identifying alumni (6-12) who use quantitative skills in their careers to participate in online conversations with these incoming students during the 6 week program (likely July 17-August 25), highlighting 1-2 alums each week.
In terms of expectations, alumni would be asked to schedule a one hour video chat with students at a time convenient for their schedule, and be willing to engage with students via an online discussion board. The time commitment would be about one hour of video conversation and some time to check the online discussion board to respond to any student questions about their career path. Carleton’s ITS office will provide technical support to set-up these activities.
If you are interested in participating or have additional questions, please contact me at meblenza@carleton.edu.

Support MCAN Scholars
MCAN Scholars is a specific use fund that provides funding for students of color to support their work during unpaid summer internships.  Thanks to the generosity of the MCAN community, we were able to fund 4 students for this upcoming summer.  These projects include conducting research to regulate processed food in Paris, documenting and maintaining Central Siberian Yupik, developing social justice frameworks and community building, and creating multimedia journalistic pieces in Spain.
As a direct use fund, 100% of your dollars go directly to supporting OIIL students during their summer experiences.  Click on the MCAN Scholars button below to help support this essential campaign. Be sure to click "other" and type "MCAN Scholars" in the gift instruction box so your donation goes to the correct fund!

Cheers to the Class of 2017!
Carleton's Office of Intercultural and Internation Life just hosted its annual student recognition banquet where they celebrated our current and future OIIL Peer Leaders, OPL Mentees, Cultural Student Organization Leaders, and Cultural House Residents.
We send our best wishes as a new group of Carleton MCAN members heads out into the world.  Congratulations!
