Happy Giving Day! From noon today until noon tomorrow, the entire Southwestern community—alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and friends—is coming together to celebrate and lift up SU. The next 24 hours will include competitions between classes, sports, and more. Any amount is welcome. The goal is to reach 1,500 donors by noon tomorrow, so spread the word!
As an added bonus, I am offering a Giving Day challenge! If we reach 100 faculty and staff donors during Giving Day, I will make a special gift of $5,000 to Southwestern. Give now!
Shoutouts
Three outstanding SU students! Congrats to Eugenia Agobe ’23 on being named a Newman Civic Fellow. Eugenia is one of 173 students nationwide chosen to receive this honor. She is passionate about engaging her generation in political processes and is actively involved in campus-wide efforts to promote voter education, registration, and participation. Great work, Eugenia!
I also want to congratulate Sierra Burton ’22 and Suleman Khan ’25 for receiving the prestigious Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad. Sierra plans to study abroad via the SU European Cultural Explorations program this summer, and Suleman plans to use his scholarship to study abroad in Japan in fall 2022 with ISEP. I know you both will make us proud while abroad, and I can’t wait to hear about your experiences when you return.
Happenings on Campus
The annual Borderland Symposium kicked off yesterday. The symposium continues today through Thursday with more presentations, performances, community crafting, an art gallery, and a book display. Declare Your Major Day is happening today from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the Academic Mall. This is a chance for first-year students and sophomores to make it official and declare their major while having a little fun. Finally, the Theatre Department opens Sweeney Todd, a deliciously dark musical about the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, this Friday!
You can check out all of this week’s events on the campus calendar.
Finally, thank you to my FYS students who joined me for a reunion dinner last night at my home. I appreciate you!
Have a great week!

P.S. For all of you who couldn’t solve the equation in last week’s At the Helm, ask someone who loves Star Trek to help!
