An alternative plan for the Roof Depot site, developed by Phillips residents in partnership with the East Phillips Improvement Coalition and DJR Architecture.

Minneapolis City Hall Council Chambers (Room 317)
On Monday, June 15, the City Council's Ways & Means Committee will decide whether or not to allow City staff to negotiate the purchase of the 7.5 acre Roof Depot site in East Phillips to relocate the City's water maintenance facility, currently located in Southeast Minneapolis.
The Phillips community does not support this City acquisition.
Families in this area and environmental advocates throughout Minneapolis are concerned about further concentrating environmental pollution in this majority low-income, Indigenous and People of Color neighborhood. The community is also worried that the City would be taking an action that violates its own Comprehensive plan, which guides development in Minneapolis and states: "Through promoting and protecting the civil rights of the citizens of Minneapolis, sources of environmental pollution will not be concentrated in neighborhoods of one race or ethnicity, near sensitive populations, or in economically disadvantaged areas."
The cumulative health impacts stemming from the extra emissions of the proposed added truck traffic and welding in this already environmentally polluted neighborhood are of high concern to Ninth Ward Council Member Alondra Cano.
The Phillips communities invite you to join them at this meeting of the Ways and Means Committee of the Minneapolis City Council as Council Members consider this issue. Please come hear presentations from Council Member Cano, State Representative Karen Clark, and City staff on this issue and support your neighbors.
