Dear Parents and Families, |
The school year is coming to a close and your students are wrapping up their finals. As they close out the semester, we wish them well with their exams, papers, and projects.
We would like to take a moment to offer our thanks and appreciation to you. Your ongoing support is a critical component of student success. Thank you for all the ways you coach, support, and guide your students from home.
We’d like to offer a huge thank you to the parents and families of the Class of 2025! Your student's journey has been unlike any we have ever seen, and we thank you for your partnership in keeping students safe and engaged throughout this unusual season of life. We hope the resilience your students have developed and demonstrated will stay with them for the rest of their lives no matter the challenges they face. We know you are proud of your soon-to-be graduate- we are too- and we can't wait to see all that they accomplish in the future.
Thanks to everyone for making the 2024-2025 academic year a success!

Residence Hall Closing Process
|
From Housing and Residence Life |
All residence halls and apartments close at NOON (12 pm) on Monday, May 5, 2025. Only students who have been approved for an extension, are transitioning to summer school housing, or are graduating may stay past this date. Please coordinate moving plans with this date and time in mind.
Check-out involves preparing each room, completing the check-out form, and returning the room key (where applicable):
|
- Pack and take all personal belongings. Check all drawers and under and behind furniture to ensure everything is collected.
- Remove all trash and recyclables.
- Donations should be placed in a designated donation collection area.
- Make sure all furniture is accounted for.
-
Microfridge? Unplug and defrost the unit first. After it has defrosted, make sure to clean the unit. Units should be left in the room and will be picked up after the student leaves.
- Make sure the door is locked when a student leaves.
- Complete the check-out form.
- Return key to the campus office (if applicable).
|
A note regarding damages and billing:
Part of the check-out process is to assess the room for any repairs that may be needed due to either wear and tear usage or damage/excessive cleaning. Housing and Residence Life will compare the room's current state to the original room condition report completed when students first moved in. Damage charges are divided equally between roommates unless HRL receives a written statement from one roommate claiming responsibility for the repairs/cleaning.

President Vincent E. Price will preside over the 2025 university-wide commencement ceremony, that will also serve as the culmination of Duke’s Centennial celebration, and will mark the 100th anniversary of Duke’s first graduating class. Grant Hill’ 94, business leader and Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, will give the commencement address.
Degrees are officially conferred at the commencement ceremony, but diplomas are distributed by departments and schools at separate events.
Tickets will be required for guest entry. Students will need to request tickets for their guests. On April 9, your graduates received an email with instructions on how to request these tickets.
Tickets will be digital and are for general admission seating.
Browse the information below or explore commencement.duke.edu to find everything you need to get started planning for your graduate's big day.

The 2025 Senior Survey is now LIVE!! Encourage your senior to check their emails for the survey link and info. This is a great opportunity for students to share their Duke experience and what they plan to do after Duke.
