Join a committee –get more involved in your industry!!
Committee participation is one of the most valuable benefits of your ATMIA membership. Are you involved in one of those committee groups? No? You are missing out on a lot of good opportunities.
Committees aren't just a means of keeping up with the industry, hearing about current issues, or making sure you know what new resources ATMIA has made available. It is a gathering place where you can really get to know your colleagues. There may be a few that you have met, because your footprints overlap in one spot or another. But there are many others who you otherwise might never meet.
The connections you make in a committee setting are not only of value on a personal level, but can greatly benefit your business or career, as well. As the saying goes, "It's not just what you know, it's also who you know." And I am constantly impressed to see how eager our members are to open doors for and help each other.
About 35% of U.S. region members recognize that value and belong to at least one committee group. Check out the committee page on our website for more information on both regional and global groups. Canada regional committee groups include:
- Government Relations Committee (GRC) – The GRC serves as a forum for all member organizations that are affected by government regulation at both the local and Federal levels. It is also a vehicle for advocacy; such as with the recent effort to promote consumer payment choice and the right to pay with cash.
- Canada Regional Board (requires a Board-level membership) –Member organizations that join at the Board level automatically become members of their regional Board. Board membership provides organizations with more visibility within ATMIA and greater opportunity to influence chapter direction and positions on critical issues.
All ATMIA members have access to an array of global committee groups. A few of the most popular committees include:
- The Consoritum for NextGen ATMs – This is a global initiative, managed by ATMIA, that all members are welcome to participate in. If you want to have a part in creating the new future for ATMs, join your colleagues from over 300 industry organizations.
- ATM Hygiene & Safety Committee – A newly created group that will create ATM and cash cleaning protocols for the post-pandemic environment.
- Cash & Payments Council – Its mission is to share current information, data, context and member feedback on global cash and payment trends.
- ATM Security Association (ASA) – Managed by ATMIA and focused on ATM security. The ASA hosts its own group of security-related com
In other words, there is something of interest for everyone. And this is not a life-long commitment – you are more than welcome to "sit" quietly on the sidelines for a meeting or two in order to see if it is of interest. If you need help sorting it all out, feel free to reach out to me.

Pandemic forces major changes to the Canada conference schedule
The biennial Canada conference is the most important ATM event in the region. It was orignally scheduled for early April, then pushed to September, due to the conronavirus pandemic. At this point in time, it is impossible to know whether travel and meeting restrictions will ease enough to allow for a successful event.
Therefore, the in-person event is being pushed back to April, 2021 – still at the same venue in Vancouver. Our event staff will be in touch with all attendees and exhibitors that were already registered, regarding their options.
Rather than leave a complete vacuum behind, ATMIA Canada will also host a virtual conference event on the same days, September 22 - 24. The program will run from 10am - Noon each day.
This impressive program will kick-off with a discussion of the impact of the pandemic on demand for and use of cash, led by the Bank of Canada. The roster of speakers includes leaders and experts from across the spectrum of the ATM industry, who will address these and other relevant and timely topics..
You will not want to miss this important event. Plan to attend and register now. Don’t wait until next year to get up-to-date on technology and events that are already changing the ATM world.

Upcoming committee meetings
Canada Regional Board
The Canada Regional Board meets three times a year to discuss important issues, committee activities, and the financial health of the chapter. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 13 at 11:00am EDT, which is the originally scheduled date. It is open to all Canada board-level members.
Canada Goverment Relations Committee
Under normal circumstances, the Canada GRC meets three times a year to discuss regulatory and compliance issues, advocacy, and other government related matters. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this meeting will be combined with the Canada Regional Board meeting, scheduled for Thursday, August 13 at 11:00am ET, as noted above.
