Upholding UC San Diego's Principles of Community

Dear Tritons,

We care deeply about the well-being of each of you and our entire campus community.

As the conflict and violence in Israel and Gaza continues, we ask you to stand with the Chancellor and the rest of the UC San Diego community in solidarity against Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and all forms of hate, discrimination, and intolerance. Chancellor Khosla’s statement and University of California President Michael Drake’s statement affirm this urgent call for all of us.

We want to reiterate a few key points from their messages:

Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of the U.S. Constitution and is revered on our campus. Nearly all speech is legally protected.
However, just because we have the right to free speech does not mean we should use it to intentionally hurt others.
Threats of violence and acts of intimidation have no place on our campus and will not be tolerated. The student code of conduct policies that protect individuals from harassment and discrimination – as well as policies that protect against abusive behavior – will be continue to be enforced.

If you believe that you have experienced harassment or acts of discrimination, please contact the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD).
Do not hesitate to seek support and resources from the many partners who exist to help you.

We all belong at UC San Diego. We are fully committed to supporting you as individuals and as a Triton community, and in so doing, making the campus and world a better place.
