OGGY DOGGY
OGGY DOGGY has completely recovered from his case of mange, infection and malnutrition. He has been transformed into a gorgeous, intelligent, well mannered dog who everyone falls in love with at first sight! He is in foster care with the person who plans to adopt him but he has one final hurdle to clear. He has an eye condition called entropion which causes the eyelid to turn inward and the eyelashes to scratch the eyeball. He needs surgery and will be going to a specialist for the procedure. We are committed to Oggy but need help funding the operation.
There is a benefit bbq dinner being held on Thurs, May 14th at 6:00 pm at Sometimes It's Hotter on SGI. The charge is $10.00/plate and all proceeds will go toward Oggy's surgery. If you can not attend but want to contribute, go to our website forgottenpets.org, click on "help" and make your donation on our pay pal account. Please send an email to fcadoptioncenter@fairpoint.net stating your name, amount donated and for what and we will apply it to Oggy's account. Thanks in advance!!
PADDLE JAM
The second annual Apalachicola Paddle Jam is being held this weekend, May 15-17 at Battery Park. The Humane Society will be in attendance on Saturday, May 16th.  We will be there with puppies available for adoption as well as information about the Adoption Center and how you can get involved.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about kayaking, local groups and organizations or find a new furry friend.  See you there!
KITTEN SEASON
There is nothing much cuter than a kitten and when you multiply that by dozens, cuteness overload can happen.  To save us from this malady, we are asking you all to come and adopt one of our adorable kittens.  We have several litters at this time including the ones above as well as two pregnant females about to give birth.
The risk of cuteness overload continues through the summer so you have several months to adopt the kitten you have been waiting for.  Please do what you can to save us by adopting one of them.
.WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Bubba was brought to us by Animal Control in November.  He and his buddy were picked up running the streets of Eastpoint and his owner decided to surrender him to us in hopes of finding him a better situation.
Bubba is a  Husky/Collie mix and as you can see, very handsome.  He was one of the most social and vocal dogs we have ever had here.  He would watch our faces and listen to our voices and try his hardest to mimic our language, and he got very close. There were times we thought someone was out in the kennels calling to us.
Bubba tested positive for heartworms and of course he needed to be neutered so we started looking for an adopter who would help pay for his treatment and went ahead with his neutering.  There were a lot of inquiries about him but the right fit didn't emerge until February, however, Bubba made good use of his time while he waited.
The organizers of the annual Mardi Gras Pet Parade called to see if we had a dog that would make a good  King.  One that was calm, social and trustworthy around people, dogs and kids.  Did we ever!  Bubba was nothing if not royalty material so we nominated him for the position and he was chosen.
On the day of the parade he was dressed in a purple rob and wore his crown proudly.  He sat on the oyster boat float as if he were born to it and nodded his regal head to all of his subjects as he passed by.  After the parade he joined the party and allowed all who wanted to, to pet him and be photographed with him.
The very next week we received a phone call from a couple living in Longwood, FL who wanted to adopt him and were willing to pay for his heartworm treatment.  We began the treatment immediately and six weeks later, he was picked up and taken to his forever castle.
Below is a picture of his royal highness with his new best friend behaving like a happy and loved dog.  Although we are sure he enjoyed his time as King, we have no doubt he ejoys the love of his new family and the simple pleasures of being a dog much, much more.  All hail King Bubba!
