OPSD Fall Mini-Symposium Celebrates Lefkowitz Society Inductees and Research in Residency Trainees |
Join OPSD on October 6th at the OPSD Fall Mini-Symposium for an address from Robert J. Lefkowitz, recognition of newly inducted Lefkowitz Society members, and presentations from Research in Residency trainees highlighting their latest research discoveries and career development experiences. This event celebrates the next generation of physician-scientists while bringing together faculty, trainees, and mentors from across Duke.
The program will begin with remarks from Dr. Robert J. Lefkowitz on the physician-scientist environment at Duke, followed by the induction of new members into the Lefkowitz Society, a community for Duke MD and MD/PhD post-graduate trainees pursuing careers as physician-investigators. The symposium will then feature an introduction to the Research in Residency program from Mai ElMallah, MBBS, Professor of Pediatrics and MPI of the NHLBI R38 StARR Program, followed by research presentations from residents Christian Goodwin, MD; Christopher Bassil, MD, PhD; Ayad Ali, MD, PhD; and Matthew Pun, MD, PhD.
Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided. All Duke physician-scientist trainees and faculty are welcome to attend. This event is designed to strengthen connections across Duke's physician-scientist community by celebrating trainee accomplishments, highlighting innovative research, and fostering new professional connections. Register for the in-person Mini-Symposium on October 6th from 4-6 PM in MSRB III Room 1125.

Applications are open for the Duke nomination for the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) PSSF Fellowship. This award is a fully funded, medical school gap-year opportunity for MD-only students to engage in rigorous, immersive training with research mentors. Only one student can be nominated by their medical school dean each year, and the fellowship provides a $42,000 stipend and $8,000 support for health insurance and travel to the ASCI annual meeting, along with professional development opportunities.
