Recognizing Club Award Winners
|
|
|
A long running annual tradition in our Honor Society recognizes schools with Club Awards for achieving degrees. Club Awards are based on school strength. For example, the 100 Club recognizes schools with a strength of more than 100 points in the prior school year. The 200 Club honors schools that earned 200 strength points; and so on. The higher the strength, the higher the Club designation. Congratulations to the 2023-2024 Club Award winners!

Rebuttal Basics in Debate
|
In this Springboard Series webinar, students learn the conceptual basics of a rebuttal through examples. Chad Meadows, Director of Debate at Western Kentucky University and co-author of our Public Forum textbook, takes students through clashing, warranting, and impacting arguments, and explains signposting, structure, prep, and more. This would be a great homework assignment for new debaters!

Coaches » Coaches who perform service for the NSDA, such as hosting tournaments or recruiting or sponsoring new schools, earn service citations. As you enter citations digitally, you work toward Distinguished Service Awards, which honor coaches using their skills to serve others. Learn more or add citations today!
Students » Students can earn up to 20 service points per day for a maximum of 200 service points per year. Service points can be entered at an advisor’s discretion for activities that better a student’s school or community. They are a great way to retain students involved in a slew of activities and celebrate the difference they're making with their skills. Examples include:
- Coaching middle or elementary school students prior to a tournament
- Judging a round of middle school competition
- Judging a round of novice competition (Degree of Excellence and above)
-
Participating in reader’s theatre, one-act, or a choral reading group
- Giving a speech at a political rally
Students who earn the maximum number of service points in a given year are awarded the Speaking and Service Award.

Teaching Interpers About Theme
|
It's important for interpers to understand theme as they approach their cuttings. A simple way to give students practice identifying themes is to analyze animated shorts. Using both class discussion and small group work, students can watch the shorts Dust Buddies, Runaway, or a video of your choosing and discuss their thoughts on the theme(s). This activity is included in lesson 4 of both the high school and middle school Start Here lesson plans for Interp.
