Clean Boats, Clean Waters 2026 Summer Internships |
The Clean Boats Clean Waters program is hiring paid summer interns in the Vilas County area. Students provide information to boaters about Aquatic Invasive Species prevention; inspect boats, trailers, tow vehicles and related equipment for aquatic invasive species; and upload data to the Wisconsin DNR database. Summer Internship with Red Cedar Basin Monitoring Group |
The Red Cedar Basin Monitoring Group at UW-Stout is hiring six student interns for the summer 2026 field season. The RCBMG focuses on sources of and solutions to surface water problems in the impaired Red Cedar watershed. Interns receive a salary plus scholarship funding to enroll in an advanced freshwater field experience summer course. Calling undergrads! Would you like to help solve water-related challenges? Join the Freshwater@UW summer research opportunities program for an incredible mentored research experience and professional development. Work in Wisconsin alongside global experts in biology, history, chemistry, ecology, economics, engineering, and more. Includes summer stipend, housing and travel.
Research locations include UW-Green Bay, UW-La Crosse, UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, UW-Stevens Point and Manitowoc, WI. Deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2026.

LAKES REU Summer Opportunities at UW-Stout |
The LAKES REU is recruiting eight students from ANY university to join its 10th cohort June 7-Aug. 8, 2026. The REU is funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Defense ASSURE program.
Housing, stipends, and funds for food will be provided to accepted students. UW-Stout will also provide funding for students to present their research at a national conference in the year following their summer research. Deadline to apply is Feb. 1, 2026. Learn about the program and apply

If you missed Alaina Harkness' talk on the Great Lakes Blue Economy, watch the recording. She shared the goals for Great Lakes RENEW, an NSF-funded, six-state initiative focused on recovering critical minerals, removing harmful contaminants, and securing our region’s freshwater resources. She also discussed how to get involved.
