Walk and Ride Challenge Update

If you have already registered your team, you may pick up your t-shirts and pedometers in Veteran's Park (corner of Woodmont Ave & Norfolk Ave) on September 7 or 8 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Only one member of your team is needed to pick up team packets, but all are welcome.

To participate in the Challenge, we have everyone create teams of no more than 5, give the participants pedometers, and have them compete to see which team can take the most steps between September 11 through October 1. The three teams with the most steps will be awarded grand prizes. Prizes are also awarded throughout the three-week challenge!

Each week, everyone will have a chance to win.
  • Log 25,000 steps in a week and you are automatically entered into a random drawing for "grab bag" prizes (examples: BTS gear; gift cards to local retailers and restaurants; and more!)
  • Log 50,000 steps in a week and you are automatically entered into a random drawing for an Amazon Kindle!
  • And finally, be sure to keep a look out for weekly surprise challenges, awards or giveaways! More details coming soon.

Montgomery County Schools Reopened This Week
On Monday, August 29, students in Montgomery County resumed their commutes to school! Since they are very likely to set out on foot or bike  to school or the bus stop, here are a few things you can do to help keep them safe, courtesy of AAA:
  • Slow down, especially in school zones
  • Obey traffic signs and signals
  • Stay alert and eliminate distractions
  • Keep an eye on the space between parked cars
  • Look for clues of children nearby and modify your speed accordingly
  • Always stop for school buses
  • Modify your travel routes to avoid schools altogether
  • Turn your headlights on for maximum visibility
Plan Now for Car Free Day!
On Thursday, September 22, you can pledge to go Car Free (or Car Lite) for a day and be entered to win great prizes!
BTS staff will be at the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Wisconsin Avenue, near the entrance of the Bethesda Metro, greeting commuters and providing commuter information from 6:30-9:00 a.m. on that day as well.
