Lead to Read Children's Book Drive and Volunteer Event: Aug. 19 - Sept. 11

Staff Council Outreach Committee is hosting a children's book drive to benefit Lead to Read. Lead to Read's mission is to support the social, emotional, and reading skills that are foundational to student success by advancing its literacy platform and mobilizing community volunteers.
Staff Council is accepting new and gently used children's books Aug. 19 through Sept. 11. Drop off locations include: Miller Nichols Library South Entrance and Atterbury Student Success Center (ASSC) 1st Floor Main Entrance. Questions? Email staffcouncil@umkc.edu.

UMKC Blood Drive: Aug. 28, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Join us for the Community Blood Center blood drive on Aug. 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Help save the lives of others by donating blood. This blood drive will take place in Pierson Auditorium in the Atterbury Student Success Center (ASSC). Register today on the UMKC blood drive website.

Celebrate Red Wednesday at Sept. 4 Staff Council Meeting: Wear Red and Bring a RMHC Wish List Item

Commonly known as Red Friday, Staff Council is excited to celebrate Red Wednesday thanks to our back-to-back champs! During Red Wednesday, the Chiefs will sell limited-edition commemorative flags to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities-Kansas City (RMHC-KC). Learn more on the Red Wednesday website.
At the Sept. 4 Staff Council meeting, we encourage attendees to wear their favorite Chiefs gear, and bring a donation for RMHC-KC. Items such as ground coffee, coffee creamer, paper towels, travel-sized toiletries, sandwich bags, and non-perishable snacks are currently on the RMHC-KC wish list.
If you cannot make it to the Staff Council meeting, please contact staffcouncil@umkc.edu and we can arrange a time to grab your wish list items.

The Kansas City Roos are having a sidewalk super sale. Cash and credit card accepted. Buy $75 worth of merchandise to automatically be entered into a raffle to win a KC Roos backpack.

We encourage UMKC faculty and staff, departments, offices, and community partners to get involved in Roo Welcome 2024. UMKC faculty and staff serve a vital role in the Roo Welcome experience. UMKC faculty and staff are essential in creating a positive and welcoming experience for our new campus community members.

Staff Professional Enrichment Fund: Next Deadline Sept. 1

The UMKC Staff Professional Enrichment and Emergency Relief Funds (SPEER) supports qualified UMKC staff by reinforcing their competencies and strengthening their talents and abilities. This fund can be used to help cover registration fees and travel costs for professional development opportunities, such as conferences, conventions, summits, seminars, and professional development materials/tools. Funding is available for individuals or a group of staff.
The next deadline to apply for the Staff Professional Enrichment Fund is Sept. 1. Visit the SPEER Fund website to learn more and apply.
