This year's Upper School Fall Play, 12 Angry Jurors, is based  on the Emmy Award-winning movie 12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose. Picture this: 1950s New York, a man is dead, the life of another is at stake, and a guilty verdict seems imminent. The conflict that follows is fierce and passionate as these 12 jurors deliberate the verdict of a young man accused of murder who, if found guilty, could go to the electric chair.

Show opens Friday, November 17 at 7:00 pm, with additional performances Saturday, November 18 at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, November 19 at 2:00 pm.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
7th grade students spent the month of October studying the classic New Mexican novel, Bless Me, Ultima, by Rudolfo Anaya. The unit culminated with  students working together on a 3D art project in class. They were asked to construct a character, symbol, scene or idea from the novel. Using wood, cardboard, newspaper, cottonwood branches, fabric, buttons, glue guns and duct tape, among others, this work called on the kids to be collaborative, creative, flexible and efficient with class time. The result is that English teacher Sarah Stark's room now embodies many of the important concepts from this classic novel.
Via a collaboration with 2D Studio Art class, Latin class, and Prep's Library Services, middle school students have been learning calligraphy and studying illuminated manuscripts from medieval, Renaissance, and contemporary periods. These studies resulted in each student researching and selecting a Latin quotation to write in calligraphy and illustrate. Swing by the library on your next visit to Prep to see a full display of the students' illuminated manuscripts.
Wildlife guide extraordinaire and one of the first Maasai to own his own camp in Kenya, Jackson Looseyia paid a special visit to our middle school students last month. Born in the Maasai Mara in 1967, Jackson learned the art of bush craft from his father. "When we went on adventures to lions’ and hyenas’ dens, I was so scared, my eyes were like a hare’s, but my father kept telling me to be strong, become a man and live long. His words are still alive today,” Jackson said in an interview on the Huffington Post.

Jackson spoke about his day-to-day lifestyle and cultural values and regaled students with anecdotes about the many life lessons he has learned from experiences in the animal kingdom. From photos of the migration to tales of lion prides, Jackson’s blog is an absolute must-read for those passionate about conservation, wildlife, and life in Kenya.
ATHLETIC NEWS
If you could put together a team that epitomizes the best of Santa Fe Prep, look no further than the Girls Soccer team. After a thrilling, undefeated regular seasonand the first district championship in over a decadethe team played their hearts out at the state tournament but ultimately fell short of their goal by losing in the semifinals. We will miss the heartfelt leadership of our three seniors (Izzy Child, Emma Ehlers, and Ariane Talou) as the team looks to build on this momentum again next year.

The Boys Soccer team sought to repeat their state championship but could not overcome a string of injuries as well as stiff competition and lost in the quarterfinals. It was impressive to see this group of seniors continue to lead the program at such a high level this year.

The Girls and Boys Cross Country teams both performed well at the district meet in Dulce and their 3rd place finishes qualified them for the state championships. Against strong competition, they each finished the season ranked 7th in the state behind the strength of their lead runners Chelsea Griscom '21, Sophie Addison '22, Adrian Whitten '19 and Griffin Rutherford '20.

Volleyball wrapped up their regular season with a second place finish in the district tournament. This result and their strong schedule earned them an 8th seed in the state tournament, which begins this Thursday in Rio Rancho with pool play at 10:30 am.

Reunion Snapshot

We recently welcomed the classes of 1987 and 1997 back to campus for their 30th and 20th year reunions. Attendees were happy to be back to their old stomping grounds, and a handful of alumniwho hadn’t been on campus since they graduatedwere amazed to see the new Library and Sun Mountain Field. Alumni were also glad to hear about Prep’s sustainability efforts, commitment to tuition assistance and collaboration with Breakthrough Santa Fe.

Huge thanks to class agents Greg Matwiyoff '87, Germaine Temple Chappelle '87, Tom Dunigan '97 and Liza Abeles Lutzker '97 for organizing their respective reunions. And thanks to everyone who attended!

We’re looking forward to seeing the classes of 1968, 1978, 1988, 1998, and 2008 this coming year!
CULTIVATING PURPOSE
Dear Prep Community,
We are in the process of reaching out to each of you to ask for your support of our annual fund—some of you have been contacted already, some of you will be soon, and many others have already donated—thank you!

You may know that tuition does not cover the cost of a Prep education. Every dollar you donate to Santa Fe Prep is tax-deductible and helps provide the extensive and personalized curriculum that cultivates purpose in our students. Together we need to raise $620,000 this year to support our talented students and to create a promising future for our country.

If you have not had a chance to donate then please click here to do so now.  You can also call or email Director of Advancement Kézha Hatier-Riess with any questions—505.795.7526 or khatier-riess@sfprep.org

The Santa Fe Council for International Relations (CIR) recently awarded Abelino Fernandez-Leger '18 as Student of the Year 2017. Abelino was recognized for his dedicated work during his summer internship and TAP-related activities during the year. The keynote speaker for the gala was Nicholas Burns, former US ambassador to NATO and European countries, who spoke about the challenges of U.S. Global Leadership.

Executive Director Sandy Campbell shared, "
Though we have had many, Abelino was our very best high school intern over the past year. He has been an indispensable help in preparing for and receiving our international visitors, in writing countless proposals to secure those visitors, and in being an incredibly friendly face always thrilled to be in our office to help out in whichever way we needed it."

Congratulations, Abelino!
Our Admissions Office would like to thank the Parent Association, our parent and student volunteers, and faculty and staff for all of their help and support during our Admissions Open House. It was a huge successwe hosted 222 guests, our largest crowd in several years! There is great enthusiasm and energy around Santa Fe for the education that Prep provides.
