County Acquires the Macy’s Stores at Gwinnett Place Mall |
Exciting news!
WSB-TV spoke with Joe Allen, executive director of Gwinnett Place CID, to gather his thoughts on the recent acquisition of the two Macy’s properties at Gwinnett Place Mall by Gwinnett County.
Recently, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved the Urban Redevelopment Agency of Gwinnett County’s purchase of the Macy’s sites at Gwinnett Place Mall, totaling 23 acres, for $16.5 million. The Urban Redevelopment Agency of Gwinnett County will acquire 293,059 square feet of retail buildings on 23 acres of the Gwinnett Place Mall site, including the Macy’s department store and Macy’s furniture store, which will be leased back to Macy’s for store operations to continue through early 2025. The Gwinnett Place Mall Site Revitalization Strategy was a combined effort between Gwinnett County, the Gwinnett Place CID, and the Atlanta Regional Commission.
This is a huge step forward in helping to make The Global Villages a reality.

Joe Allen Recognized with a Professional Excellence Award from the Council for Quality Growth |
Congratulations to the CID’s executive director, Joe Allen, for being recognized by The Council for Quality Growth with its Professional Excellence CID Award, presented by Georgia Power and Pond & Company. This marks the 15th annual CID Recognition Event by the Council, and Joe’s leadership and dedication to enhancing the Gwinnett Place district made him the perfect award winner.
The Council’s unique CID Recognition Event celebrates the ongoing contributions of the state’s CIDs to advance the region’s economic centers and strengthen the distinct character of the business communities they support. Each year, the Council presents two awards to distinguished CID leaders who have made a significant impact on the region: the John Williams CID Leadership Award, recognizing a CID volunteer, and the CID Professional Excellence Award, honoring a CID industry professional.
We are incredibly proud of you, Joe! Congratulations!

Early voting is just around the corner and while we face a significant national election, it’s also crucial to participate in local voting that impacts the local community. One key item on the ballot is the opportunity to decide how transit will be funded in Gwinnett County.
The Gwinnett County transit referendum is a countywide vote to fund transit projects through a dedicated Transit Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax, commonly referred to as T-SPLOST. One of the many projects includes the expansion of an on-demand shuttle micro-transit system, which could provide valuable benefits, including improved rides within the community and access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
