Sneak Peek of Sandra Moon Community Complex
The fourth and final phase of the Sandra Moon Community Complex won’t open until August. But if you want a sneak peek, City Administrator John Hamilton and Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett have got you covered. Check out the video to get an update on construction of the reimagined auditorium and expanded lobby as well as an event space.

Inside Huntsville Interview
Council Member Robinson was recently featured on Inside Huntsville, hosted by Brenda Martin. During this episode, Council Member Robinson shared what led her to public service, highlighted current projects in District 3 and reflected on what true leadership means. Council Member Robinson served on the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education before being elected to City Council.

Summer Slowdown Making Roads Safer
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) launched its annual Summer Slowdown traffic safety initiative on May 21, aiming to remind drivers to pay close attention to posted speed limits and keep safety at the forefront of trips throughout Huntsville. HPD has seen positive results from previous Summer Slowdown promotions and officers will focus on areas with high crash volumes and frequent speeding complaints. The initiative continues through July 31.

Recognizing ALS Awareness Month
Council Member Robinson presented a resolution at the May 14 Council meeting recognizing May as ALS Awareness Month, acknowledging the thousands of Americans who are affected by the fatal disease. ALS is also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” The Oberman family received the resolution on behalf of their son, Eric, who tragically passed away due to the disease.

“Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Awareness Month provides an opportunity to increase public awareness of the dire circumstances of people living with ALS, acknowledge the negative impact the disease has on affected individuals and their families, and support research to eradicate this disease,” the resolution said in part.

Concerts in the Park Start June 1
Concerts in the Park, a summer tradition in Huntsville, begin Monday, June 1, and continue for 10 weeks of live performances each Monday through Aug. 3. Showcasing an exciting lineup of local musical talent across genres including rock, country, jazz, R&B and contemporary hits, concerts will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Big Spring Park. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets for seating, and leashed pets are welcome.

Honoring Huntsville's Hall of Fame Firefighter  
Council Member Robinson presented Huntsville Fire & Rescue Capt. Stephanie Pinto with a resolution at the May 28 Council meeting, commemorating her recent induction into the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame. Pinto, a Grissom High School graduate, starred in softball at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). She also has been ushered into the Gulf South Conference Hall of Fame and the UAH Athletics Hall of Fame.

Celebrate Independence Day Early at Ditto Landing
Council Member Robinson and Ditto Landing want to help you get an early start on the Independence Day festivities with a free celebration on Saturday, June 27, from 6-10 p.m. along the banks of the Tennessee River. The event will include live music by 5 O’Clock Charlie and the Tavern Preachers as well as food trucks. The fireworks show will begin at 9 p.m.

After School Bash Returns to Big Spring Park
One of Huntsville’s favorite events not only provides a fun family evening but also benefits area teachers is returning on Saturday, June 6, to Big Spring Park. The After School Bash will be from 4-8 p.m. featuring bounce houses, interactive public safety demonstrations, local food trucks and vendors and live entertainment by Sipsey Falls. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations and help “Pack the Patrol Car” with school supplies that will directly benefit educators through Free 2 Teach.

Ditto Landing Community Cleanup 
Council Member Robinson joined teams of volunteers who participated in the Ditto Landing Cleanup Day in partnership with Southeast Family YMCA and the City of Huntsville's Green Team. This cleanup day provided an opportunity for community members and City leaders alike to get their hands dirty to keep Huntsville green while making some friends along the way.

Preserving Indigenous History in Huntsville 
As Historic Preservation Month in May draws to an end, the City spotlighted the rich Indigenous history in Huntsville and north Alabama. A panel discussion illuminated the value and importance today of Indigenous history. “We can’t understand a place unless we recognize all the cultures that shaped it,” said Ben Hoksbergen, Cultural Resources Manager for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.
