Budget & Apportionment Meeting Tomorrow |
Come learn more about the financial support that your Meeting contributes to BYM! The Stewardship and Finance Committee hosts this annual meeting to consider issues related to apportionment and financial support and stewardship of BYM. We will worshipfully consider how our budget supports our values and our commitment to be an anti-racist faith community. We will hear from BYM Committee representatives who will discuss the work their committees plan for 2025. The session will be held online on Saturday, April 13 from 10 am to noon. Called Interim Meeting & March Minutes
|
The Minutes from our March 23, 2024 Interim Meeting are now available. One item of follow-up from the March Interim Meeting is a Called Meeting next Saturday, April 20 to (via Zoom) to discuss and hopefully approve Peace and Social Concerns Committee's recent minute on Ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. The minute received a first reading at Winter Interim Meeting on March 23rd, and Friends present agreed that the matter was too urgent to lay over until June Interim Meeting for a second reading. | Higher Ed Scholarships Now Available! Apply by May 15th
|
The BYM Educational Grants Committee awards educational grants up to $2,000 to members and regular attenders - and their children - of BYM Monthly Meetings. Grants may be applied to expenses associated with full or part time undergraduate attendance at accredited post-secondary educational institutions. Grants will be awarded based on multiple criteria, including financial need and the Committee’s assessment of an applicant’s statement of purpose and its consistency with Friends’ testimonies. Applications must be submitted in full by May 15th. For further information, visit the Educational Grants Committee webpage.

Registration for the Spring Spiritual Formation Retreat ends Friday, April 12th. The Retreat takes place May 3-5 at the Claggett Center outside Frederick, MD. Don't miss out on this time of spiritual enrichment, fellowship among Friends, and abundant rest.

The FGC Gathering Registration Now Open!

Registration for Friends General Conference Gathering 2024: Rooted in Story is now open for all! Join Friends from around the country - including many from BYM - at Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania, just a few miles from Philadelphia, June 30 through July 6, 2024, for a time of rest, reflection, recentering, reconnecting, and worship. BYM has scholarship funds available to support the attendance of Young Friends (high school) and BIPOC Global Majority Friends. Email admin@bym-rsf.org for details. Meetings may also have funds available to support attendance of members and attenders.

Adelphi Friends Host Teach-In on Settler Colonialism with David Dean
|
Adelphi Friends Meeting recently hosted an online teach in about settler colonialism in the US and Palestine. David Dean, who grew up in Adelphi Meeting, helped teach the event. David is a political educator, writer, and speaker seeking to support the growth of the powerful, multiracial alliances. Friends read David's foundational article on the subject from his newsletter. Adelphi Meeting reports the session was powerful for their community and recommend David as a speaker or workshop leader for your Meeting. For more information, contact Mikayla at mlytton@gmail.com.

Peace & Social Concerns Online Networking Day, April 26th |
The Annual BYM Peace & Social Concerns Networking Day will take place Saturday, April 26th at 9:00am on Zoom. The 2024 Networking Day will focus on Kingian Non-Violence, Gaza, and other Peace Concerns. The Day will begin with a conversation with Dwight Dunston before Friends break into Networking groups. Dwight Dunston is a Philadelphia Quaker, West Philly-based facilitator, hip-hop artist, educator, and activist who has brought his creativity, care, and compassion to schools, community centers, retirement homes, festivals, and stadiums all over the country and internationally. Dwight is a Pendle Hill faculty member this spring, and the host the of Pendle Hill’s podcast The Seed: Conversations for Radical Hope. Dwight will be joined by Barbara Bezdek (Homewood Friends Meeting, Baltimore). Both are certified trainers in the legacy tradition of Kingian Nonviolence stewarded by Dr. Bernard Lafayette, who was part of Dr. King's core team from Selma to Memphis. Dwight and Barbara have co-presented workshops in Kingian Nonviolence principles and practices with Quakers, Church of the Brethren, and other faith groups.
