The Strauss & Co Fine Wine Auction took place via a live bidding process on Sunday 10 May 2020.
This auction was established in 2019 to create a secondary market for fine Cape wines. The most recent edition highlighted the wines and styles of Bordeaux, and included South Africa's finest wines, with rare vintages not available elsewhere in the market.
There were registrations from over 20 countries, and 90% of the bids were made by South African individuals. Total sales fetched R2.1 million.
The sixteen Kanonkop case lots were supplied by Wine Cellar in Cape Town, and included vintages of our Paul Sauer and Cabernet Sauvignon from 1991 to 2015.
Here are the prices fetched for some of the more recent vintages:
Paul Sauer: 2009 (1 x 6 - R17 000), 2010 (1 x 1.5L - R4500), 2012 (1 x 3 x 1.5L - R14 000), 2015 (1 x 6 - R31 000), 2015 (1 x 6 - R30 000)
Cabernet Sauvignon: 2012 (1 x 6 - R14 000)
