ADA Compliance: Reasonable Accommodation for Employees

Employees, as well as students, may be entitled to an accommodation for a documented disability. The employee accommodation process involves an interactive process that includes a review of the job requirements and how the disability impacts the employee’s ability to perform essential job functions. The College, in accordance with applicable law, will provide, upon request, reasonable accommodations for the application process, employment, and continued employment, or reassignment of qualified individuals with disabilities, unless such accommodations would impose undue hardship on the College.

The employee completes the Employee Reasonable Accommodation Request Form and submits it to HRSTM. The appropriate accommodation is identified through an interactive process between the employee, the employee's supervisor, and the HR specialist for disability coordination. The agreed upon accommodation is not set in stone and may need to be reviewed, especially if the employee’s disability changes or the College’s business needs change.

HR will maintain all copies of accommodation requests, supporting medical information, including denials, in a file separate from the employee personnel file, consistent with the confidentiality requirements of the ADA. For more information visit the ADA Accommodations webpage or contact Rowena D’Souza at 240‑567‑5370.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (or two-step authentication) is a security measure that adds a second level of protection, in addition to your password, to designated websites and online services. This second step of security, provided by Duo, MC’s 2FA vendor, makes it harder for hackers to break into your accounts as it provides real-time alerts for password protection and allows you to use your smartphone, tablet, or landline phone to easily confirm your login requests.

Ditch the phone call and text passcodes—Activate Duo Push! It’s quicker, easier, and more secure than receiving text messages or phone calls. To use Duo Push, you will need to have the Duo Mobile app installed and activated. To activate Duo Push, go to the 2FA device management page:
  1. Authenticate via MyMC portal
  2. Choose My Settings & Devices > Device Options > Activate Duo Mobile
Check out the 2FA webpage for information and a list of FAQs, or call IT Security at 240-567-7222.

Mental Health Wellness

Montgomery College understands the importance of keeping students, faculty, and staff mentally healthy. Research has proven that mental health challeges impact GPA, retention, completion rates, and work performance. As a result, the College strives to provide education and preventative programming to improve mental health and well-being.

The College’s Mental Health Services Program offers a variety of trainings about mental health issues and how to interact with students and colleagues who need help. Mental health offerings cover a wide range of topics, including general information about mental health and stress management, crisis intervention, suicide prevention and education, substance abuse, and many more.

For more information on bringing these trainings to your department or student organization, please contact the Student Health and Wellness Center at 240-567-2369. By providing support and appropriate help to our students, faculty, and staff we can help end the stigma attached to mental health, improve the quality of life, and recognize that mental health is health.
