Today! Jazz Salons with Alum Gallegos
This Jazz Salon will celebrate the music and artistry of jazz titan Wayne Shorter. Shorter was a key member of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and of the second great Miles Davis group. And he was a founding member and co-leader of the seminal group Weather Report. Wayne Shorter, in addition to being an amazing musician, was an inventive composer whose compositions, including “Birdland,” are jazz standards. Wayne Shorter, who recently passed, received 12 Grammy Awards during his lifetime, a testament to his sustained creativity and excellence.
This Jazz Salon will be led by Law School alum Geoffrey Gallegos, a multi-talented musician, composer, arranger, and conductor. Geoff will guide us through Wayne Shorter’s musical journey, comment on his mastery of multiple saxophones, and enlighten us about the intricacies of Wayne Shorter compositions.
