U Faculty-Led: Material Culture and Public History - Roman Britain in London, England with Prof. Mira Green
This learning abroad course at the University of Utah offers students the opportunity to explore famous collections and archaeological sites of the Roman world while experiencing modern British culture. It focuses on material culture and public history, engaging with broader audiences beyond academia, including local communities and museum visitors. The course examines the lasting impact of ancient Roman objects and how contemporary individuals interact with them. Three University of Utah credits will be earned through this program.

Ask me about... how Romans cooked their food, what they did with their chamber pots, or how ancient latrines actually worked! My research dives into the everyday lives of Romans—how they moved through their homes, completed daily tasks, and how those embodied routines shaped ideas about labor, status, and the roles of free and enslaved people within the household.
I also love chatting about old cars. I’ve spent years in the garage with my dad and my husband; although I’ll be honest, my main job is usually handing them tools and providing moral support!
One of the most meaningful parts of my work at the University of Utah is... getting to learn with and from both undergraduate and graduate students. Whether you’re curious about Roman daily life, thinking about research in the ancient world, or just want to talk through academic or professional paths, I’m always excited to connect. Students are at the heart of what I do and truly the most rewarding part of my job.
