Arts Advocacy: State Issues
We research and track bills in the Nebraska Legislature that would impact the arts, arts education, and creative businesses. Check our E-Advocacy website to stay informed and reach out to your legislators on issues that matter to you.
Nebraskans for the Arts depends on memberships and donations from arts advocates across the state.  Check out our secure donation page and help us share the importance of arts education, strong arts policy, and sufficient arts funding with decision makers and community leaders throughout Nebraska.
2016 Primary Election - May 10
Candidates for the 2016 elections are set. This PDF link provides a list of candidates for the 2016 primary election.
How do you know if these candidates support the arts? We are preparing a candidate survey so you can learn more about their stances on arts-related issues. These will be posted on our website as they are received.
In the meantime, the best way to prepare for the election is to ensure you are registered to vote. The Secretary of State has a wonderful site where you can:
Key dates to remember for Nebraska elections:
  • April 22, 2016 - Mail-in Primary Voter Registration Deadline
  • May 5, 2016 - In-person Primary Voter Registration Deadline
  • May 10, 2016 - Primary Election
Federal Art Advocacy Day - March 7 & 8
Arts advocates from a broad section of America's cultural organizations, along with grassroots advocates from across the country are in Washington, DC the next few days to promote the importance of developing strong public policies and appropriating increased public funding for the arts.
You can support these advocates by emailing your federal representatives. Our website, powered by VoterVoice, lets you easily connect to your federal and state representatives by putting in your zip code and address.
Your message does not need to be long - the best messages convey how/why the arts and arts education are important to you personally. You can also share this link that provides 10 reasons to support the arts. You can share your message on social media and follow the Arts Advocay Day conversation #AAD16.
This would also be a good time to thank our Congressional representatives who have joined the 166 member bipartisan Congressional Arts Caucus (Rep. Brad Ashford) or encourage them to join (Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, Rep. Adrian Smith); or encourage our Senators (Sen. Deb Fisher, Sen. Ben Sasse) to join the Senate Cultural Caucus. Both caucuses serve an important role in informing Congressional officials about federal initiatives and the imact of the arts on our economy, educational system, healthcare costs and service members returning from war.
