Welcome Back to Duke!

The academic year is in full-swing on campus! Joining our community this year is our new Vice Provost/Vice President for Student Affairs, Mary Pat McMahon. We're thrilled to have her at Duke and as part of the Division. In the video below, Mary Pat discusses her qualifications and priorities for the role, describes how she hopes to partner with families, and recounts her first impressions of Duke.

Moments of Mindfulness

As coursework picks up for the semester, so do Moments of Mindfulness sponsored by DuWell in the Student Wellness Center! DuWell offers a wide variety of opportunities for mindfulness including knitting groups, drum circles, paint nights, tea tastings, yoga, and so much more. 

Flu Shot Clinics

Student Health at Duke University provides ample opportunities for students to access their yearly flu shot. With various dates and times running from September 11 through October 30, Student Health hosts Flu Clinics to help combat the illness on campus. Encourage your student to make a plan to get their shot!

Family Weekend 2019

Be sure to register for Family Weekend 2019! Join us October 25-27 for a fun-filled weekend including student group performances, talks from Duke community members, and various other community-building events. For schedule and registration information, visit the Parent and Family Programs website here

Career Planning

Fall Career Fair

The Duke Career Center is hosting its annual Fall Career Fair on September 25. The fair will include more than 100 global and local companies from industries spanning from nonprofits to technology. The fair will run from 10:00am-3:00pm in Wilson Gym. Learn more here

Drop-in Advising

The Career Center hosts Drop-in Advising for Duke undergrads Monday-Friday throughout the academic year. Drop-in Advising is the best way for your student to get immediate and ongoing feedback on their resumes and other documents. They can also use Drop-in Advising to ask any quick career questions, learn about the Career Center, and ask about campus resources. Visit the Career Center website for exact times.

Practice Interview Day

Invite your student to practice their interviewing skills and get valuable feedback from recruiters, alumni, and professionals! Interviews will last 30-45 minutes and include a post-interview discussion and critique. Please be aware that Practice Interview Day is for undergraduates seeking employment in companies or organizations, not for professional school interview preparation.
Practice Interview Day will take place September 20 from 10:00am-4:00pm at the Career Center.

Orientation Recap

Duke welcomed all new students to campus from August 20-25 with New Student Orientation. The parents and families of new students also joined the Duke Family with Parent and Family Orientation, spanning August 20-21. The Office of Parent and Family Programs would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who participated in Parent and Family Orientation events. In Case You Missed It

The Karsh Alumni and Visitors Center

Duke's new alumni center is a state-of-the-art home for alumni and visitors coming to campus. The center is home to three new buildings including a pavilion that will provide a hub for annual events such as reunions and homecoming. New Exhibit at Nasher Museum

Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now is a new exhibition at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. This exhibit, which opened in August, is the first to chart the development of Indigenous art in the United States and Canada. Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now will run through January 12, 2020. 

2019-2020 Parent and Family Resource Guide

The annual Parent and Family Resource Guide is now available online. The Resource Guide provides important information about all corners of campus, university policies, and department email addresses and phone numbers.
