How Good is Your Online Study Game?
Surprisingly, the most common study strategies students used are among the least effective study strategies available.
Students often rely on re-reading, underlining, and highlighting their notes as their primary study strategy, but this is the least effective way to truly learn course content. Even worse, you may not even take notes in the first place when watching lecture videos, reading online texts, or attending a Zoom class, which means you aren’t giving yourself a foundation upon which to study later in the semester.
Since the majority of classes are now taught online, it’s crucial that you work to truly understand course material. No one wants to re-watch a pre-recorded lecture or zone out in a Zoom call, only to miss an important detail about coursework. Try to implement some of the study strategies below and watch your learning comprehension improve!
- Take hand-written notes while watching lectures, reading online texts, or attending a Zoom class
- Create a study guide
- Make and use flash cards
- Design mind maps of course concepts
- Use mnemonics
- Quiz yourself
- Create a study group
- Get plenty of sleep and eat nutritious food
