The impact of ChatGPT and generative artificial intelligence on education
|
Friday, May 12, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM PDT
|
What can ChatGPT do in the classroom? What are its weaknesses? Why do instructors and others need to be more aware of its impacts? What are practical solutions to the teaching and learning issues it raises? How can we prepare students to utilize AI wisely and ethically to extend their capabilities? How might ChatGPT serve as a wake-up call for long-needed reforms?
Join us on Zoom on May 12th to discuss this timely issue with facilitator Dr. Cynthia Alby, Ph.D. We'll introduce ChatGPT, discuss its implications for teaching, and introduce strategies for addressing ethical and course design issues. You don't want to miss this one - see you there!

Canvas lets you do a lot, but that means it also has a lot of settings. This cheat sheet will help you easily navigate any administrative tasks in Canvas throughout the term.

Previously, instructors had to manually enroll their students in ATLAS workspaces using groups within PebblePad. This new workflow allows faculty to automatically enroll students in ATLAS based on their enrollment in Canvas. Further, faculty can synch an assignment in ATLAS to one in Canvas, allowing students to submit their work on either platform.

Portland State University launches Adult Learner 360 Survey to improve support for adult learners |
PSU has launched an Adult Learner 360 survey from the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) as part of its strategic efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate adult learners. The initiative, which is funded by the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission's Future Ready Oregon initiative, aims to compare PSU's perceptions of institutional effectiveness against adult learners' satisfaction with their experience. The Adult Learner 360 survey will provide PSU with a gap analysis that will help the institution understand how it can effectively support adult learners and improve its practices. The survey is a key step towards expanding Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) practices, which will enable adult learners to receive credit for the skills and knowledge they have acquired outside of traditional academic settings.
