Loggers Behind the Curtain

Bree Beal ’97 and Lauren DiMaggio Jorgensen ’06 were quintessential theater kids. Jorgensen remembers belting out songs with her Fisher-Price microphone, while Beal would dress her stuffed animals in costumes and have them perform short plays she created.

Now, these Loggers form the backbone of BEAT Children’s Theatre in Bend, Oregon. Arches caught up with Beal and Jorgensen to learn about fostering creativity, collaboration, connection, and self-confidence through theatre arts.

Crowning Achievement

In July, Natalie Worthy ’25 was crowned Miss Washington 2026. A graduate of Puget Sound's School of Music, Worthy will attend The Ohio State University to pursue a master's degree in art, policy, and administration. But first, she'll embark on a year of service, advocating for art programs in schools, and will represent the state of Washington at the Miss America pageant this September.

Excellence On and Off the Field

The Northwest Conference released its NWC Scholar-Athlete Award winners, honoring athletes who got it done on the field and in the classroom. Puget Sound had 157 scholar-athletes earn the conference award, and Hayden Teeter ’26 and Zoe Witter ’27 were named NWC First Team Scholar-Athletes.

Teeter finished the 2025 season for the Logger Football team in record-breaking fashion, becoming the single-season leader in total offense, passing yards, passing yards/game, passing attempts, passing completions, and passing touchdowns. He also broke three NCAA DIII records for his performance against Southwestern, including passing attempts in a game (86), passing attempts in a quarter (40), and completions in a quarter (26). 

Witter was named to the All-NWC First Team after leading the Women's Soccer team to the NCAA DIII championship tournament, where they competed in the Round of 32. She played and started in all 22 of the Loggers' games, recording five goals and two assists, including three game-winning goals. Witter was also named to the Women's Soccer CSC Academic All-District team and has shown her excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

Something in the Water

International students in the Asian Studies Summer Academy program traveled to Mount Rainier National Park with Dan Burgard, professor of chemistry; Dan Sherman, professor and chair of Environmental Studies & Sciences and director of the Sound Policy Institute; and Sarah Petrillo, assistant director of the Sound Policy Institute. Students learned about salmon habitat and collected water samples from the mountain's streams and rivers for an experiment to detect caffeine in the water and, by extension, see the impact of human activity on the environment.
