| Fostering a More Inclusive Workforce: A Message from our CEO
People Inc. is proud to support National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Held each October, NDEAM aims to spread the word about disability employment and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. This year’s national theme is “The Right Talent, Right Now.”
People Inc. has long been an advocate for vocational training and employment opportunities for people with varying needs and abilities. Through our Vocational Services, we have helped people train, prepare for, secure and maintain employment. Of course, we couldn’t have done this without support from inclusive employers. Companies like The Salvation Army recognize the importance of hiring a diverse array of talented people. Examples are included in this special edition of People Inc. in the News.
Also worth recognizing are TJ Maxx and Pfannenberg USA, two businesses that have partnered with our agency to provide wonderful employment opportunities to the people we support. In honor of their great work, People Inc. nominated TJ Maxx and Pfannenberg for the NDEAM Business Recognition Awards, hosted by the Western New York Employment Consortium last week.

| Workers and Businesses Benefit from Supported Employment Program
This October marks the 13th anniversary of Carol Ervolino joining the team of the The Salvation Army Family Store in Williamsville, NY. She is now responsible for stocking on the sales floor, pricing merchandise, re-organizing items and assisting customers.
“Throughout her employment, Carol has shown great growth and willingness to assist in any part of the store operation,” declared Kaylin Schreiner, store manager. “She is our most dedicated employee – reliable, motivated and always on time.”
Carol is known to help her co-workers when they ask for assistance and when the store is busy, she will help cashiers by bagging purchases. She clearly enjoys her job and loves being part of the team.
“I get to meet new people all of the time and enjoy greeting returning customers,” stated Carol. “I recommend the People Inc. Supported Employment Program because my job coach assists me on the job and with other issues when concerns come up.”
Carol enjoys working to keep herself busy. She drives her own vehicle and likes to spend time at festivals and going out to dinner.
The People Inc. Supported Employment Program offers supports to people with developmental disabilities in community-based settings with a focus on assessment, placement, training and stabilization. Introduce Friends and Family to a
Human Service Career
The People Inc. AmeriCorps ETHOS Program introduces people to a career in human services while providing them valuable job skills, a living allowance, student loan deferment, an education award toward college and other benefits during their year of service. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and cannot be current People Inc. employees. Those who have served in the U.S. Military (including the Guard and Reserve), their families and those with a disability are encouraged to apply. | Affordable Apartment Options for Older Adults 62+ in Southern Tier and Western New York
Older adults in the southern tier and families who advocate for them have an affordable housing option. Apartment applications are now being accepted for Academy Place Senior Apartments, located at 1 School Street, Gowanda, NY. Academy Place Senior Apartments, managed by People Inc., is a HUD Section 202 Affordable Housing and New York State Tax Credit complex. The apartments provide affordable and safe housing for independent older adults age 62 and up who meet the federally-mandated household income guidelines.
The HUD Section 202 Affordable Housing apartments are income-based. Some utilities are included. The Academy Place Senior Apartments, featured in this video, include a kitchen with appliances, a community room and laundry facilities. Additionally, storage and a 24-hour on-call emergency service are provided. Tenants may have one small pet.

Vocational Specialist
People Inc. is seeking a vocational specialist
who is responsible for maintaining a case
load of participants. Duties involve the development and amendment of a participant’s service plans, delivery of direct program/training services and monitoring progress. The vocational specialist is required to collaborate with staff in alignment with participant and agency goals, along with interacting with program participants in a supportive role to foster appropriate social, vocational and interpersonal skills; among other duties. Minimum requirements include: Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology or social work or closely related field and two years’ experience in a rehabilitation program with people who have disabilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and a valid NYS driver’s license that meets agency policy. Book Fair Offers Something for the Whole Family
The holidays are right around the corner, so in the spirit of this time,
the Museum of disABILITY History
will have a Book Fair and Sale on Saturday, November 30, from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ever-popular children’s books, like Olivia the Bully, Kyle and the Cape of Courage and the Mubu the Morph series will be great gifts and learning tools for kids. Plus, books in the Museum of disABILITY History’s Abandoned History Series are for sale, including The Colony Chronicles, Buffalo State Hospital: A History of the Institution in Light and Shadow, Of Grave Importance: The Restoration of Institutional Cemeteries and J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital: Her Inside Voice. All of these books spread awareness about people with disabilities and their history. A Magical Homecoming
Deaf Access Services, an affiliate of People Inc.,
is hosting a homecoming event for everyone
who is part of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, along with people from the Hearing community who support them. All are welcome
to attend “A Magical Homecoming” on Wednesday, November 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joseph’s Country Manor and Grove, 275 Columbia Avenue, Depew, NY. Admission is $55 per person. Guests will be treated to a performance by Magic Morgan, Deaf magician, and other fun activities. Interpreters, Deaf leaders and community partnerships will also be recognized.
