Managing sponsored project finances at SHSU is now easier with the launch of Cayuse Fund Manager. Available through the Cayuse platform, this new tool provides principal investigators, project directors, and research administrators with a centralized view of grant financial information.

Users can monitor budgets, expenses, encumbrances, available balances, and transaction activity through an easy-to-use dashboard that integrates with Banner and is updated regularly.

The Controller’s Office will be offering training sessions and demonstrations in the coming weeks, with additional details to be shared via email.

The College of Osteopathic Medicine is pleased to announce that REDCap is now available to COM faculty, staff, and students. Hosted securely by SHSU IT, REDCap is a powerful web-based platform for collecting, managing, and storing research and clinical study data.

Whether you're administering a simple survey or managing a complex longitudinal or multi-site research project, REDCap provides secure, customizable tools for data collection, participant management, electronic consent, automated communications, and more. The platform supports compliance with major research data security and privacy standards, including HIPAA and GDPR.

ORSP is seeking faculty and staff volunteers to serve on the Local Peer Review Council (LPRC). Reviewers will provide constructive feedback on grant proposals before submission, helping principal investigators enhance proposal quality and competitiveness.

As recognition for their time and expertise, reviewers may be eligible to receive compensatory funding.

Following the launch of Cayuse Fund Manager, the Controller’s Office will soon share upcoming training opportunities and demonstrations to help faculty and staff navigate the new system. Be on the lookout for updates! 

Incentive Pay - Fall 2026

We are well into our hot summer semester! As you plan your course schedule for the fall semester, start thinking about course buyouts.

Research buyouts planned with the intention to participate in the Incentive Pay program will require the completion of an Incentive Pay Compensation workbook. This document contains the calculations and approvals required to participate in the program. Multiple signatures are required up to and including your Provost, so planning is priority.

Your intention to participate will need to be relayed to Kathy Allen by August 1, 2026 so she can obtain the information she needs to prepare the workbook. Payouts will be in January 2027.

Required Training Reminder

New grants and new hires coming through the Office of Research Administration have basic training required by the Sponsor and/or SHSU. Although not all grants have the same requirements, here are the most commonly missed trainings that will halt the grant set up and hiring processes:

• CITI – RCR: If you need help accessing this training or setting up an account in CITI, please contact Sharla Miles.

• Banner Finance 101: Accessed through Talent Management Banner Finance 101

• Banner 9 – General Navigation Online Curriculum: Talent Management

• BearKat Buy Online Curriculum: Talent Management

Additionally, beginning in May 2026, automatic emails will be sent from Cayuse, along with weekly reminders to complete this year’s Annual 2026 COI Disclosure Form.

This form is due by August 1, 2026 and can be accessed via the link found in your email. Once you follow the link in the email, click the blue ‘New Disclosure’ button in the top right corner. Depending on your answers, this process should only take 5-10 minutes of your time.

SHSU undergraduate student Lucia Carrera recently attended the 2026 National Agri-Marketing Conference in St. Louis, Missouri, where she and her team competed in the Agri-Marketing competition. Their project featured a marketing plan for an all-natural food dye created from imperfect fruits and vegetables.

The conference provided Lucia with the opportunity to learn from fellow competitors, receive valuable feedback, and build connections with industry professionals and students from across the nation. Reflecting on the experience, Lucia described it as a rewarding opportunity for both professional development and networking.

SHSU students are encouraged to participate in a brief survey exploring how artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, are being used in college coursework. Feedback from this survey may help inform future classroom practices and course design related to AI use at SHSU.
