Second Annual Yard Tree Giveaway is Here!

Free trees for all Portlanders!  We are excited to announce the locations and dates of our second annual Yard Tree Giveaway events. This year, we are hosting city-wide giveaways in the Centennial and Lents neighborhoods of SE Portland.

Why yard trees? Private yards offer the most space for tree planting and can greatly increase the number of trees in Portland. Urban trees improve our lives by helping us breathe easier, offering summer cooling, and providing fall color and beauty.

Which trees will be offered? We are offering both medium and large form trees, including evergreens, natives, and those with beautiful fall color. More information can be found HERE

How can I participate?

You can help make Portland greener by planting one or two free trees in your yard. People who rent their home should talk to the property owner before planting.
Each household can register for up to two trees. If we have trees left over, they will be available starting at 1:00 pm on a first come, first served basis.
Love the idea, but have trees already? Another way to become involved is to volunteer with the Yard Tree Giveaway. SIGN UP HERE to join the 2018 Yard Tree Giveaway Team.

Trained team leaders are paired with novice volunteers to collect measurements and plot points on a digital map. No prior experience is necessary—we will teach you everything you need to know! Friends, family, and neighbors are all welcome.

Which Tree to Plant Workshop
Tuesday, October 2, 2018, 6:15 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Matt Dishman Community Center, 77 NE Knott St.

Which tree should I plant? This is a common and very important question. Come join us to learn which trees will grow best in your planting strip.

In this workshop, we will discuss different tree features like growth potential, fall color, flowers, and maintenance for the trees on Portland's Approved Street Tree Planting Lists. You will talk with local tree experts and learn which trees do best in different size planting strips. You can also get answers to your other tree planting questions, and sign up to get street trees with Friends of Trees. One of the most important things you can do to care for your trees is to choose your trees wisely, and plant them in the right places. Register here.
