Annual Session Starts Monday!
|
BYM will kick off our 353rd Annual Sessions next week! Pre-Arrival Information has been sent to Friends registered to participate in-person, and Zoom Links will be emailed to ALL registered participants this afternoon.
We'll kick-off our time together on Monday and Tuesday with our pre-sessions retreat before hearing from Lamar Matthew (York) in our opening plenary on Tuesday night. Don't forget - each morning of Annual Sessions we will post the Daily Minute on the Annual Session homepage to keep you up to date on the activities for the day. We'll see you in Frederick!

Memorial Meetings for several recently-departed BYM Friends have been scheduled. Jerry Coates (Eastland/Frederick) will be remembered this Sat, Jul 26 at 11:00am at Eastland Meeting House. Friends will gather to remember Jim Baird (Takoma Preparative) today at Sandy Spring Meeting at 2:00pm. A Memorial Celebration in loving memory of Bob Heaton (Gunpowder) will take place on Sat, Aug 2 at 11:00am. Friends are also reminded that we will hold a community-wide Memorial Meeting as part of Annual Session on Sat, Aug 2nd from 10:30am - 12:00pm to remember all BYM Friends who have died since we last gathered for Sessions. | BYM Palestinian-Israeli Peace & Justice Working Group Update
|
The BYM Palestinian-Israeli Peace and Justice Working Group, representing ten+ Meetings across BYM united to join the Apartheid-Free Community movement. The Working Group is sponsoring two related workshops at Annual Sessions, and showing the film “No Other Land" on Wednesay evening of Sessions. Gathering on second Wednesdays by zoom, the mission of the Working Group is “to foster deep moral discernment, historical and human rights education, and nonviolent activism by BYM Friends promoting peace, justice, equality, and safety for all who live in Israel/Palestine, wanting equal regard for all.” For more information, contact: louisaldavis@verizon.net.

Epistle from BBIPOC Gathering
|
Black, Brown, Indigenous and People of Colour Friends from many Yearly Meetings gathered on 31 May 2025. Thirty one Friends came with hope, joy, and some wariness. Arising from the gathering, these Friends share their Epistle. BYM's Global Majority Caucus of BBIPOC Friends will gather daily again this year at Annual Session at 1:00pm. A new White Friends Confronting Racism caucus will also gather during that time.

| Friends Incubator for Public Ministry Launches Fellowship
|
The Friends Incubator Fellowship for Public Ministry is a two-year, cohort-based experiment that supports five Quaker teams—each made up of a public minister, an elder, and their meeting community. Through retreats, residencies, spiritual formation, storytelling, and mutual support, fellows will deepen their ministries and walk with their meetings in partnership, growing stronger in spiritual care, discernment, and shared leadership.

Rashid Darden Publishes New Novel
|
Rashid Darden, BYM Friend and FGC Staff Member, is author of the newly published novel A Peculiar Legacy. It's the story of a Black community in Washington, DC, dealing with the loss of one of their own while maintaining their unique worship traditions. | New Collection on Quaker Faith by BYM Friend
|
Thomas Wolfe (Annapolis) has long had an interest in comparative religion and interfaith work. Nearly 30 years ago he read a comprehensive collection of the writings of William Penn and found inspiration in Penn’s method of finding commonalities in different scriptures. Friends looking for a well-organized introduction to commonalities among world religions that will prepare them for dialogue with believers in other traditions will find Wolfe's book valuable.
