Kicking the Tires on Huntsville Transit
Council Member Watkins recently visited Huntsville Transit’s new facility at 521 Pratt Ave. and talked with Parking and Public Transit Director Quisha Bryant and Public Transit Manager John Autry about the City’s public transportation. Public Transit has recently added new routes and is working toward expanding weekend services. Transit is also recruiting for part-time paratransit bus operators.

Heroes on the Block Rocks
With hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill and marching bands dueling, the first Heroes on the Block Community Party proved to be a rollicking success. A strong turnout at the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center enjoyed free food and visiting with representatives from Huntsville Police and Huntsville Fire & Rescue. Children enjoyed a petting zoo and rock-climbing wall while the marching bands from Jemison and Lee high schools dazzled the crowd with a friendly one-upmanship competition. Most importantly, Huntsville’s public safety departments had the opportunity to connect with the community in a non-emergency situation.
