A New Season of Advocacy

A new legislative session has begun, and our season of advocacy is off to a busy start. Governor Hogan's budget includes a 3.5% rate increase for providers in Developmental Disabilities Services, which is good news, but there is more work to be done. Our teams of self-advocates, family, staff, and board members visited with legislators to voice our priorities and needs, and we plan more visits in the weeks ahead. We will continue to monitor developments in Annapolis, and we encourage you to do the same. Legislators need your input and perspectives to inform their decisions, so make your voice heard!

Special Membership Meeting

The Board of Directors has called a Special Membership Meeting on Wednesday, February 27 for the purpose of approving proposed changes to the bylaws of the organization. All current members of The Arc Montgomery County are invited to attend; no response or reservation is required. Click here for more information.

February 19 is Pizza Night!

Metro Wants Your Feedback

Metro is inviting constituents to comment on their proposed FY2020 budget. It includes initiatives that would expand hours and service, as well as change fare and pass structures. Feedback can be provided until 5 pm on Tuesday, February 5. Click here for more information on the budget and an online feedback link.

Social Security Scam Alert

The SSA warns that fraudulent callers are making threatening calls. Victims are told they will face legal action if they fail to provide personal information, and/or that they must reactivate a suspended Social Security number. These calls are a scam. Please do not give out any personal information. Also, report any suspicious calls to Social Security's Office of the Inspector General at 1.800.269.0271.

Resources for Caregivers

Save the date for our 2019 Respite Resource Fair: Saturday, March 23, 10 am- 2 pm. Join us to learn how unpaid, live-in, primary caregivers of children/adults with disabilities and frail seniors can get short-term relief and other support. Click here for more details.

Champions for Children Child Care Expo

The second annual Champions for Children Montgomery County Child Care Expo is Sunday, February 24 from 11 am-2 pm.The event is free and can help you find quality child care or find out if you qualify for child care scholarships. There are free workshops and developmental screenings, as well as fun activities. Click here to learn more.

We're Moving!

After more than 30 years at Nebel Street, our headquarters will open in a new location on August 1, 2019!

We're excited to start fresh in a fully-accessible building on the bus line, with plenty of parking for our staff and visitors. All divisions and departments will be under one roof in Rockville, with our KFICCC and After All programs and Urban Thrift store remaining in their current community locations. Stay tuned for more details in the months ahead.
