$5,000 Team Grant Available This Fall: Apply by September 30!

Does your team have strong potential but a significant lack of financial resources? Apply for the Keith West Memorial School Grant which is dedicated to ensuring more students have access to speech and debate! This fall, one school will receive $5,000 and two schools will receive $2,500. Applications are due September 30. 

Building Supportive Cultures to Prevent Bullying and Harassment

Create a safer environment for your students! Take our new free, self-paced NSDA Learn course to explore best practices for student safety in speech and debate. Lessons include practical tips and policies for bullying identification and prevention, sexual harassment identification and prevention, and bystander intervention. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate reflecting your PD hours. 

Speaking and Service Award Winners

Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Speaking and Service Award winners! This award annually recognizes students for their service to their teams and communities. Students receive this distinction when they earn 200 service points in a year, the maximum number possible in a school year. 

Read the Board Meeting Agenda

We invite you to read the agenda for the NSDA Board of Directors meeting October 1-2. Please feel free to email any comments or questions to board@speechanddebate.org. Feedback will be compiled and presented to the Board for consideration. 

Vote for the Policy Debate Topic

Member students and one chapter advisor per active school can log in and cast their vote before 4:00 p.m. CT on October 14. Please rank the topic areas 1 (best) through 5. Due to a nationwide shortage of materials, the NSDA Trophy Shop may experience delays with fulfilling orders. Pricing may be impacted as material costs have risen by as much as 30%, and certain items may not be available. Free Online Practice Opportunities for Your Students 

Your team is invited to join fellow speech and debate students across the nation for a variety of free, after-school, online practice sessions through our Springboard Series. During our online scrimmages, we hold one session of Congress and two rounds of speech and debate. Then, students receive written feedback and ranks just like at a live tournament. Bonus: NSDA members students earn tournament points for participating! There is no membership requirement to participate however. This is an excellent opportunity for any team to practice their performance in front of a live audience pre-competition and receive essential feedback and experience to grow their confidence and performance. Big Questions: Apply, Host an Event, Earn Funds!

You can earn up to $2,500 for your team when you apply and are approved to host a Big Questions Debate event at a tournament or against members of your own team. Online events are eligible. Almost $1.5 million has been awarded to programs since 2016. Don't miss out, this is the final year of the grant program. Get started today!
The American Legion's National Oratorical Contest. Looking for College Scholarships? Look no further. The first place finisher of The American Legion's National Oratorical Contest is awarded an $25,000 scholarship, second-place $22,000, and third-plaace $20,000.
