Construction on the New Qiantan Campus Enters the Final Stretch

My Student is looking for additional opportunities over the summer, what are some programs NYU Shanghai is offering?

Typically, various departments offer learning opportunities for students over the summer, including research, service learning, and internships. Below are some options that you can encourage your students to explore.

Deans’ Undergraduate Research Fund (DURF)

Deadline for application: March 31, 2022

Amount of support: A living stipend of 7,000 RMB. Additional project funding of up to 7,000 RMB is also available. This program enables students to produce research under faculty guidance either independently or as a group of up to four students. To be eligible, students must not be graduating this spring and also must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. It is also imperative that students secure a faculty mentor well in advance of the application deadline. Additional requirements can be found on the application page.

Social Impact Internship Grant

This grant supports students who secure an unpaid internship at a nonprofit organization during the summer. Students must not be graduating in May 2022 and should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Additional requirements can be found on the application page.

Internships

The Career Development Center provides a platform called "Handshake" that allows employers to list summer internships that our students are eligible for. That portal is accessible by all students through this link. It also has job opportunities for graduating seniors.

"At an early age, our son demonstrated an appreciation for Chinese culture and language. He is a multilingual speaker who enjoys traveling and has a globally oriented mind and spirit; and a strong interest in computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics, and how technology is applied to or interfaces with entrepreneurship and business finance. It is safe to say that NYU Shanghai has been the perfect fit for him.

At NYU Shanghai our son has had the opportunity to contribute to robotics research using C++ programming language, to lead the computer science club as its president, and in the spring of 2022 to work as a Teaching Assistant for one of his programming classes. He is also engaged in the athletic community as a member of the NYU Shanghai soccer team and he hosted the NYU Shanghai Sing-Off event during his freshman year.

We are happy to see our son excel at one of the world’s top universities. Indeed, he is receiving a first-class education from the best professors in their fields, in a safe environment, and in a highly cosmopolitan and modern city. He has made long lasting friends from several countries and is certainly having a unique international experience that is preparing him for the future.

Notably, NYU Shanghai is providing all necessary resources to minimize the impacts caused by the pandemic, and we are thankful for its excellent staff, faculty, and leadership. We are also impressed with our son’s ability to manage his college life in a confident, independent, and successful way during these challenging and unprecedented times.
