Commuter Connections Employer Recognition Awards

Each year, Commuter Connections (part of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments) recognizes companies around the Washington region who are doing great things for their employees to help them get out of their cars and onto transit or into carpools and telework. Commuter Connections is currently seeking nominations for their Annual Employer Recognition Awards for companies who are leaders in the following categories:
  • Incentives - Providing benefits that make using alternative transportation modes easier, and more attractive to employees, than driving alone, including the following:
    •  transit and vanpool subsidies
    •  pre-tax transit and vanpool passes
    •  preferred or discounted parking for carpools and vanpools
  • Marketing - Developing creative methods to promote alternative commuting options to employees.
  • Teleworking - Initiating or enhancing a successful telework program for employees.
Bethesda has a proud tradition of nominating many companies for regional recognition. If you would like for your company to be considered, please contact Susanna Parker at BTS - sparker@bethesda.org 301-656-0868 X126.  Susanna will help you draft your company’s nomination using information in your Traffic Mitigation Plan. The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2019!

Latest News from Metro

Ride with your Bike! Earlier this week, Metro announced that starting this Monday, January 7, they will begin to allow Metrorail customers to ride with their bicycles on any car at any time, provided that there is sufficient space on the train care to accommodate a standard-sized bicycle. Click here for more information.

Rush Hour Promise Gets an Upgrade! In 2018, Metrorail reached its highest on-time performance rate in seven years! With that milestone, Metrorail is raising the bar on its Rush Hour Promise. Now, passengers experiencing a 10 minute delay in travel during rush hour will receive a credit for future travel on their registered SmarTrip card. Last year, the threshold was 15 minutes. Read all about the Rush Hour Promise here.

Good-Bye 2018...Hello 2019!

January is a time to look forward. In our minds, we can let go of last year's resolutions that didn't go quite as planned (yes, I am still eating like an 8 year old) and start over with a clean slate, which is great, right? What a uniquely hopeful thing that is.
Before we do that, however, the staff here at BTS want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you. This year, we hosted many super-fun events such as the Walk & Ride Challenge, Bike to Work Day, and Park(ing) Day to inspire folks in Bethesda to think outside their cars and vehicles and bring us together as a community while doing so. One of those events was a little soggier than the others (I'm looking at you, Bike to Work Day), but it was still great and we are looking forward to more great events (and a drier Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 17) in 2019.
