More than 600 students, faculty, staff and alumni gathered around the Staller steps Monday afternoon to welcome President Andrea Goldsmith on her first official day. The event – complete with ice cream, fresh fruit, sunshine and spirited conversation – offered a warm introduction to her new role.

President Goldsmith addressed the crowd with heartfelt words: “My gratitude to all of you for giving me this amazing, unbelievable opportunity to be your next president.”

Andrea Goldsmith officially assumed the role of Stony Brook University’s seventh President on Monday, August 4, saying, "It is my honor to join the entire campus community and extended Seawolf family of alumni, donors and partners, along with our SUNY colleagues in Albany, in embracing Stony Brook’s mission as a preeminent center of learning, discovery and innovation, and the infinite possibilities going forward."
