News from the Nurse WHS Health Room

Welcome back to school, Falcons, and welcome to all the new and returning Woodinville High School families.

COVID Updates: The Washington State Department of Health has provided new guidance for schools this Fall. Please review the Symptom and Exposure Flowchart for Schools and learn about the Northshore School District's COVID information on our Health Room website so you are prepared for the school year.  You'll find details about what to do if your child has:
Symptoms,
  • If your child is exposed to COVID,
  • What kind of test your child should have,
  • What to do if your child tests positive, and
  • How you will be notified of COVID cases at school.

Other Illnesses: To avoid the spread of illness other than COVID, follow these guidelines when deciding whether your child is healthy enough for school.  In addition to the COVID guidelines, if your child has any of the symptoms below, please keep him/her at home until the symptoms subside:
  • APPEARANCE/BEHAVIOR: unusually tired, difficult to wake, pale, skin rash, lack of appetite; these are often signs of underlying illness.
  • FEVER: temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours
  • VOMITING/DIARRHEA: within the past 24 hours.
  • RASH: Any rash of unknown cause should be considered contagious. Please have your child examined by a health care provider to determine the cause and communicability of the rash before sending him/her to school. The school may require a note from the health care provider stating that the rash is not contagious.
  • Other: For other specific diseases or health difficulties it is always a good idea to contact the school nurse. We are happy to share information and resources anytime!

Students must be fever-free without fever reducing medication and no vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.

Medications at School:

If your student will be taking any medication at school, please contact the school nurse.  The Northshore School District recommends that medication be taken at home whenever possible.  We recognize, however, that in some cases it is essential that medication be administered during the school day. Learn about the procedures for the handling of ALL medications in the schools, as well as find the authorization form, on our Health Room website.

Please do not put any kind of medicine, including Tylenol, vitamins, and cough drops in your child's lunch box, backpack or pockets.  Unidentified medicine can never be given at school.

Please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss health concerns about your student.

Reduced or Waived Fees 2022-23
$$$$$$$$

Consent Form available on or after August 15 by logging into ParentVue

Visit the District website to learn how to apply for free or reduced price meals.
***Instructions on how to submit the consent form in ParentVUE can be found HERE.***

Please note: Part of the process when completing the consent form is families will first verify their information (address, phone, emergency contacts, etc.). The Consent form will appear after the race and preferred language questions. Parents/Guardians need to go through each page and verify information before reaching the consent form. The ParentVUE app on cell phones looks nearly identical to the computer version of ParentVUE for completing the online consent form.
If you qualify for free or reduced price meals, also apply for reduced or waived extra-curricular school fees pursuant to House Bill 1660 (that you may be eligible for) by logging into ParentVue* on or after August 15.

Completing the fee waiver form in ParentVUE* will allow your student's free and reduced status to be shared with those administering extra-curricular activities at our school or within the district, thus being able to waive or reduce certain fees. Consent must be given each school year and does not carry forward from last school year.

*If you need your username/password, email whsattendance@nsd.org.

Student Celebrations!

WHS celebrates two National Merit Semifinalists!

Great news! We have two Falcon seniors, Meagan McGuinness and Colin Pascual, who have received recognition as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition!  Meagan and Colin were celebrated at the Welcome Back Assembly on September 1 for their accomplishment!
Becoming a National Merit Semifinalist is no easy feat, as they were selected from approximately 1.5 million students who participated in the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test) last October in their junior year! They were selected because they are among the highest scoring entrants in our state!
Meagan and Colin will now be considered for National Merit Finalists status and opportunit to receive a National Merit Scholarship next spring!
Congratulations to Meagan, Colin, and their families on this outstanding recognition!

Falcon Days!

Thank you for attending Falcon Days on August 25 or 26! Attendance was exceptional and we hope the opportunity provided for a great kick off to the 2022-23 school year!

Attendance Updates for 2022-23

Student IDs Required for Late Arrivals
Students arriving late MUST scan their student I.D. cards or have their StudentVUE App open at the Attendance Office to receive their late arrival pass as we move to a new system this school year. The Attendance Office will have an iPad where students will scan their student I.D. cards to receive their printed pass to take to class with them.

If your student does not have their student I.D. card or a phone to login to their StudentVUE account, they will have the ability to login to StudentVUE on the iPad at the Attendance Office.

Please come prepared ready to show your I.D. card when you arrive late to school to help keep things moving quickly.

  • Seniors needing a graduation requirement
  • Missing a period in your schedule
  • Misplacement in a class (already taken or don't qualify)

If a student meets one or more of the criteria above, the student should contact their counselor.
Students should book an appoitment with their counselors if they have any further questions at this LINK!

If your student still does not have a computer or have any tech questions, please direct them to the Library.

WHS Main Office Copy Brigade Parent/Guardian Volunteers needed!

The Main Office is looking to fill spots for the 2022-23 Copy Brigade! The Copy Brigade program focuses on ten or more regularly committed volunteers making photocopies and laminating items submitted to the Main Office Copy Center by faculty and staff, as well as providing assistance keeping the work room copy center organized. Regular, committed volunteers are needed Monday through Friday for a 2-hour window between 8:20 - 12:20 p.m.

Volunteers who are able to commit to regular and consistent participation are key to the effectiveness of this program. Volunteers are encouraged to team up in pairs and, for example, volunteer every other Tuesday, alternating with their partner.  Then, if a Tuesday volunteer can’t make it, the alternating Tuesday partner may be able to swap days and fill in.  In the event a Work Room Copy Center volunteer is unable to make it on their specified day and a back-up person cannot be located, the Main Office Secretary is contacted so alternate arrangements can be made for that day.

Please email Main Office Secretary Ellen Esteves at whsoffice@nsd.org if interested and advise the day of the week you would like to volunteer!

Please note:  All NSD volunteers complete a mandatory volunteer training, background check, and submit proof of vaccination prior to volunteering. Masks are optional.

More information regarding volunteer paperwork requirements is available on the district website.

Thank you Falcon Families!

SAT –
Wednesday, October 12

The College Board’s SAT exam will be administered during the school day at WHS on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. This test administration is geared as an opportunity for seniors to take the SAT while juniors and sophomores (and opted-in freshmen) take the PSAT exam. The SAT will also be offered at WHS on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Registration Deadlines:
October 12 SAT exam  - Registration is due Tuesday, September 13 (no late registration)

For WHS October 12 SAT registration, please create an account using the link below (if you have not created one previously). Then click on Woodinville High School to register and pay the $60 exam fee online no later than September 13.

https://regismart.net/#/login

March 11 SAT exam  - Registration is due February 10, with late registration by February 28

For WHS March 11 SAT registration, visit the College Board website

SAT exams are also administered several times per year at other locations inside and outside of the Northshore School District.  Students will need to establish a College Board account before they can register for these tests.  It is important that the student registers with their own account, not a parent's account.  Creating an account takes about 30 minutes.  This is the same account that you will use if you are registering for an AP test.

With a College Board account, you can register for the SAT, and access/print your SAT Admission Ticket.  You can also access your SAT scores online, and send them to colleges.  Additionally, an account lets you manage your personal college list, save your scholarship searches, compare costs at colleges that interest you, and more.

As these tests fill up quickly, we recommend that if you want to test at a convenient location that you sign up for the SAT early.  Otherwise you might end up taking the test at a location further away.

Registration and further information about the SAT can be found at:
www.sat.collegeboard.org

Or by contacting NSD CTE Director Damen Schuneman at dschuneman@nsd.org or your student's counselor.
