Introducing: Our Physical Spaces

Last week we did a quick tour of the Co-Lab's virtual opportunities. This week, we want to show you where we are on campus!!

Locating the Makerspaces

I spent a lot of my freshman year wondering where the Co-Lab was, and getting incredibly and embarrasingly lost looking for the makerspace. Both the main Co-Lab and the Ruby Makerspace are open this semester (with limited occupancy and health precautions as according to the Duke Compact), so I'm here to minimize your wandering as you seek us out!

Design a Flyer with Adobe Illustrator

Tuesday, September 8, 1:00PM-3:00PM

In this class, you'll create a flyer using Adobe Illustrator. Here are some relatable reasons why this class is for you. Searching for a bassist for your medieval folk punk rock band? Try a flyer. Looking to advertise the opening of your Asian fusion patisserie? Put up a flyer. Lost your neighbor's cousin's son's pet toad? You guessed it, go post a flyer.

SQL for Data Scientists: Advanced Concepts, RDBMS Features, Related Technologies (2/2)

Wednesday, September 9, !:45PM-3:00PM

Cover fundamental SQL concepts, and examine related intersections with security, DBA, and performance.

3D Modeling 201: OnShape (2/2)

Wednesday, September 9, 2:00PM-4:00PM

This second and last course in the OnShape pathway builds (haha, get it?) from the first lesson where we learned how to make simple 3D parts. In this lesson, you'll begin to assemble parts into machines and more complex forms.

Programming with Python

Wednesday, September 9, 2:00PM-4:00PM

Initially, there was disappointment when I found out that the Python had nothing to do with snakes. However, Python has yet to fail me since! Python is an amazingly powerful coding language wrapped up in a palatable package—it's a great first language to learn, and this class is a great first intro to coding!

Create a Mockup with Adobe XD

Thursday, September 10, 6:00PM-8:00PM

As someone who's passionate about blogging updates on my journey to discover the perfect egg dish, I know how critical the design of my blog is to attracting readers. With Adobe XD, you can prototype a user friendly website to  display anything you'd like—whether that be your own egg journey or not!

Do you have a friend who's a bassist interested in joining a medieval folk punk rock band?

Forward them this newsletter and have them sign up for a workshop, they'll need some flyer-making skills of their own if they want to find this oddly specific band!
