News from City Hall: June 2023

A Message from the City Manager

With summer fast approaching, many of us will be choosing to spend more time outdoors. Choosing. But others will be outdoors because it’s often not their choice. They don’t have a place to call home. Addressing the impacts of homelessness is a top priority for us at the City. Read on to learn how our Safe Stay Communities program is making a positive impact in the lives of both the sheltered and unsheltered in Vancouver.

🌈 June is Pride Month in Vancouver 🌈

In June (and always), Vancouver celebrates the contributions of our LGTBQ+ community! Now more than ever, it is important for communities like Vancouver to show our pride and demonstrate that acceptance and inclusion—rather than discrimination and exclusion—make our community stronger. We're commited to dismantling heterosexism and homophobia through allyship and inclusive policymaking. This month, we proudly fly the Pride flag at City facilities across Vancouver.

Street Makeover Starts on Fourth Plain and

Fort Vancouver Way 🚧

Thanks to community feedback, work is now underway on several road improvements to make Fourth Plain and Fort Vancouver Way safer for all. In addition to installing ADA curb ramps and repaving, we’re adding a two-way bike lane track on the south side of the street on Fourth Plain, from F Street to Ft. Vancouver Way and adding buffered mobility lanes and curb lanes for right-turning vehicles and buses on Ft. Vancouver Way, from Mcloughlin to Fourth Plain. This work is phase one of a two-year project to address transportation safety issues on this busy corridor.
