Keep Massachusetts Beautiful
Dear Friend,
As Thanksgiving approaches, we want to extend a sincere THANK YOU to the thousands of volunteers across Massachusetts who rolled up their sleeves and took action to leave this world a better place than they found it. You are a special breed and we hope that your example will inspire others to join our crusade to clean up and green up Massachusetts. In the meantime, please scroll down for more news and updates.

The mess in the Muddy River

Showing Some Love to that "Dirty Water"

On October 21, we partnered with students from Northeastern University, Seaside Sustainability and the Muddy Water Initiative to clean up the vast amounts of trash and debris floating in a section of Boston's Muddy River

Deploying our Pixie Drone device, Northeastern University volunteers removed approximately 500 pounds of trash from this often-overlooked river in Boston's Fenway neighborhood. Sadly, a large amount of trash remains in the river and we will continue to support the Muddy Water Initiative’s efforts to clean it up.

This event was part of KMB’s Clean Coast Coalition program, which deploys “blue technology” to raise awareness about and clean up marine debris.

Donate for a Cleaner, Greener Massachusetts on Giving Tuesday

GivingTuesday, which occurs annually on the Tuesday immediately after Thanksgiving, launched in 2012 as a simple idea: a day to encourage people to do good.
You can show your generosity this GivingTuesday (December 3) by helping a neighbor, volunteering, or donating to a charity (including Keep Massachusetts Beautiful). Everyone has something to give, and every act of generosity counts.

This year, we ask for donations to support our Massachusetts Litter Cleanup Crew program. We ship Litter Cleanup Kits to volunteers across the state, and each kit costs us about $35, depending on shipping costs. So, if you’d like to help others make a tangible difference here in Massachusetts, please donate. Together, we can keep our communities litter-free all year long.

Litter Cleanup Kits also make a great holiday gift for the litter loathers in your life! Request a Litter Cleanup Kit today.

What goes on in the minds of litterers?

The KMB Blog:

I Litter, Therefore I Am

Ever since the first half-eaten pterodactyl wing was wrapped in a greasy napkin and tossed on the ground outside a sports bar in Mesopotamia nearly 150 million years ago, philosophers have pondered the question, “Why do people litter?”

As a service to the Keep Massachusetts Beautiful community of litter-picker-uppers, we are pleased to offer a brief satirical tour of the major schools of thought that have pondered this question.

Did You Know? There are only five municipal solid waste landfills currently operating within Massachusetts. Unless they receive approval to expand, all but one (Bourne) could close by the early 2030's.
