Texas Tech University held its Spring 2024 commencement ceremonies May 10th, 11th, and 15th, where 115 undergraduate and 32 master’s students from the Huckabee College of Architecture's (HCOA) Lubbock campus and 24 undergraduates from the HCOA's El Paso campus received diplomas. We extend our congratulations to each one of you for this significant milestone! Your dedication to academic excellence has paved the way for successful and bright futures. We have no doubt that you will continue to make remarkable strides in your chosen fields and wish you all the best of luck as you embark on this exciting chapter of your lives!

Jaclynn Herbein, a recent graduate of the Master of Architecture program with a certificate in Urban and Community Design, was named recipient of the Student Design Leadership Award at this year's Scholarship Convocation Ceremony. This distinction from the Design Leadership Alliance (DLA) honors HCOA graduates who exhibit outstanding attributes.

While completing her master's degree, Jaclynn was a member of Tau Sigma Delta and Texas Tech’s Club Gymnastics team and also served as a member of the HCOA Building Advisory Committee. In addition to her academic and extracurricular activities, she also worked part-time as a competitive gymnastics coach.

During her time as a student, Jaclynn also held teaching assistant and summer research assistant positions at the HCOA.

Following her graduation, she hopes to continue her career on the East Coast.

Senior Academic Advisor Carmen Sikes and Assistant Director of Student Services Sarah Hatley were selected for the 2024 President’s Excellence in Academic Advising Awards in the New Advisor and Advising Administrator categories, and were recognized this afternoon on May 17th at an awards luncheon hosted by the Office of the President. These awards honor academic advisors who have shown dedication and overall excellence in providing academic advising to students at Texas Tech University. Congratulations, Carmen and Sarah, on your respective awards!

Assistant Professor Dr. Asma Mehan presented a paper at the 2024 International Conference on Urban Affairs in New York City. The event was organized in partnership with the Urban Affairs Association (UAA), the European Network for Housing Research (ENHR), and the European Urban Research Association (EURA) covering a broad spectrum of topics relevant to urban life globally.  

Dr. Mehan's presentation fell under the sub-theme "Democracy Under Stress: Institutions and Governance" within the category of "Urban Politics, Political Activism, Urban Social Movements." Her work highlighted how digital activism has reshaped urban policies and societal responses demonstrating the role of online platforms in addressing critical urban issues. 

Assistant Professor Dr. Asma Mehan has been selected as an Alumni College Fellow for the 2024-2025 academic year by the Humanities Center at Texas Tech University. This honor is awarded to faculty who represent intellectual diversity and dynamic research activities within the university community.
